Meet Aarynn Jones of Jones Collective in Baldwin Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aarynn Jones.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Aarynn. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
To put it briefly, I got my start as a result of my mother’s advice. At the time I was frustrated with my then pursuit-Political Science, so she suggested I take up architecture.

Since then, I’ve moved from a student to a professional in architecture and academia. My ultimate goals in this field would be to give agency to those impacted by the built environment.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Great question. Honestly, I was the worst student throughout college and graduate school. And not because I didn’t apply myself, it was truly because I lacked confidence.

Knowing that I was the first and only in my family to pursue such an incredible goal encouraged me to get through college. I went to UCLA to pursue my Master degree, so in a way, I set myself up for a challenge, one that I ultimately completed.

Please tell us about Jones Collective.
I have an architecture design consultant business, and I am a professor, I specialize in an Accessory Dwelling Unit. I found by working in an architecture firm, most projects are too small for them, so I decided to tailor my architectural expertise to designing small residential spaces. My clients know that they can trust me to create a space that is uniquely their own.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Vacationing in Palm Springs in summer and Big bear skiing during the winter with my mother, father, and siblings. I love them.
