Today we’d like to introduce you to Saba Tekle.
Saba, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a poet who published my first book at a print shop similar to “Kinkos'” in Seattle, WA. At that time, I wanted to be the next Maya Angelou. But poetry leads me down a path I wasn’t prepared for completely so I stopped a year later.
I moved to Atlanta to become a “Video Vixen” who was barely featured in any music videos. But as deep as I was starting to get into the scene and alluring the whole industry was I end up leaving. It wasn’t my “soul” goal.
I just felt called for so much more. But I struggled with it for so long because I didn’t feel I would have the respect, nor did I have the education and background to become the author, mentor or publisher that I am today.
Eventually, I filled myself up with so much personal development, self-help, and spiritual books, audio and videos that filled my cup and the belief in myself. I then educated myself on the industry, invested time and over $5,000.00 to learn and experience the in’s and outs.
This leads me into “paying it forward”. So now in every area, I struggled in, I have in turn, turned it into a “business”.
I’d like to replace the word business to being able to be of service to others full time. I don’t believe we were put not on the Earth to take from others for the sake of “business”, that we are here to give and to be of service using our God gifted talents.
I now have published over 200 best-selling authors, created a book and movement that inspired the #20beautifulwomen challenge, blogged for the Huffington Post, had a group blog in Huff Post for my authors, had an opportunity to do a TEDx talk, been featured in XO Necole, Positively Positive, Buzzfeed, Made Magazine, CNN’s The Daily Share etc… and now have an online course to empower and educate people on everything I have learned in the industry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm.” – Eric Thomas
The hardest struggle was believing in myself. I always felt guided to do what I am doing now but I would fight or ignored God and my inner voice until I was sick of living an unfulfilled life.
It began to smooth out when I started read, “The Path To Wealth” by May McCarthy and began to writing gratitude letter daily.
No one could tell me nothing after that. I would hear “publishing is hard” or “good luck (hehe)” and I would just say to myself, “That is their story not mines” and now I here I am 4 years later.
Passion trumpets everything, education or lack thereof. Remember that.
7 House Media – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
How I would clearly describe what I do is: interior and exterior design for books, online distribution, mentor and educate new authors.
Co-authored books is what I specialize in. My best-selling book series, “20 Beautiful Women” is what I am most known for.
I am most proud of the quality I provide without comprising cost. I charge a half or a third less than most companies but provide industry standard quality books that could sit on the shelves of traditionally published books.
Our books don’t look like they were self-published. That is the problem I saw in the industry that I have been committing to fixing.
I also educate and empower my authors with knowledge on to do it themselves.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Helping women heal from reading my co-authored book series, “20 Beautiful Women” and working with women all over the world.
Also contributing to the Huffington Post, being featured as well as having my authors featured in Huff Post, receiving an invitation to do TEDx talk, and winning an award for best script at film festival.
All while not having any formal education in writing.
