Today we’d like to introduce you to Yonna Pakpoom
Hi Yonna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Bangkok, Thailand, and I moved to California in 2014. I moved to LA in 2016 and was immediately inspired by the city’s rich cultural diversity and artistic vibe. I started off in music, diving into music production and aiming to pursue a career in that field. But when COVID hit, everything changed.
During the pandemic, I found myself thinking about moving back to Bangkok. Instead, I began visiting a local flower shop and treating myself to flowers regularly and the compliments I received on my arrangements really surprised me! In May 2021, I had the chance to intern at The Boy Who Cried Flowers, where I started to seriously consider a career in the floral industry. Since then, my floral journey has been nothing short of a dream come true.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The business side has definitely been a challenge for me. I believe there’s no such thing as overnight success—skills take time to develop. But being surrounded by mentors has been a huge motivation to keep me going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I see myself as a mixed media floral artist, and I’m all about graphic and sound design, too. I love transforming florals into different creative forms—I make music and music videos featuring footage of my arrangements, and I design apparel that showcases my floral art. With my music background, I used to throw parties in DTLA from 2019 to 2020, and I can’t wait to do that again someday, creating an immersive vibe that blends both worlds. The idea of combining music and flowers has always captivated me.
I never had traditional training, so my style leans into contrast maximalism. I believe there are no rules in creativity. I thrive on mixing elements that don’t seem to match and making them work together. My floral designs reflect that bold, vibrant energy, standing out in their own unique way.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Be authentic to yourself and your connections. Commit to what you do best, and I believe everything will grow organically.
