Life & Work with Will Bailey of Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Bailey.

Hi Will , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My career in landscape architecture began in 1998, rooted in the world of luxury hotels and resort design. Early on, I was fortunate to work with Universal Studios and the international firm EDAW, which gave me an incredible foundation. Within just five years, I became licensed and a junior partner at EDAW.

Not long after, I was lured into private practice by a developer and architect whom needed help creating the Lake Las Vegas project in Henderson, Nevada. At the same time, I was flying back to Los Angeles every week to design private estates in Beverly Hills, while also consulting for the global design firm SWA. It was a fast-paced, formative period — one that gave me both a broad land-planning perspective and a deep appreciation for bespoke residential design.

For the next fifteen years, I partnered with the boutique studio of Christine London, creating landscapes for celebrity clients that blended architecture, lifestyle, and a real sensitivity to how materials work together. Then, in 2022, I launched Bailey House Ltd. That gave me the freedom to offer more personal attention to our clients, while continuing to create outdoor environments that bring together artistry and natural beauty — from resort-inspired estates to private sanctuaries.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path hasn’t always been smooth, but the direction has always felt clear. My focus is on meeting the challenges of each day, yet I make it a point to pause regularly—to look up, make sure we’re still on course, and take in new perspectives along the way—before diving back in.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m grateful to have found a profession that weaves together so many of the passions that have shaped me. As a child, I loved oil painting, science, gardening, and building models. Each could have become a path on its own, but in landscape architecture I discovered a way to bring them all into my daily work. It’s a career that allows me to balance creativity with craft, art with science. Above all, I thank God for guiding me to each new opportunity and blessing the journey along the way.
Our approach to landscape design really starts with seeing the property as this unlimited, moldable landform. We shape everything—from the big moves to the smallest details—so it all works together toward one clear vision. The goal is for the entire place to flow naturally and feel beautiful from every angle, inside and out. My eye always goes straight to the weakest link, and I can’t let it go until every piece feels resolved and just right.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve never had one, overall mentor, but I’ve had many, many great guides along the way, whether they knew it or not. It’s not the definition of a mentor, but I feel many times I’ve learned the most from others that I watch and learn what not to do.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, put your neck on the line and get in the action. Continuous care and effort will stand out and your mentor just may find you.
