Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracci Johnson
Hi Tracci, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Tracci Johnson, a beauty industry icon with over three decades of experience. My story begins in the city of Oakland, California, where I first caught the beauty bug. You could say it’s in my blood; my paternal great-great-grandmother made wigs for Madam C. J. Walker’s company, so you could say I was destined to be in the beauty industry.
In Oakland, I had the incredible opportunity to train under the watchful eye of Ron Newton, the son of the famous Huey P. Newton. He took me under his wing and let me hone my skills in his salon. Before long, I was off to L.A., styling some of Hollywood’s best. My work can be seen on TV, in films, and in the music industry. I’ve been recognized as one of the top 10 African American stylists in the U.S. and one of the 50 most influential women in the beauty industry.
I’ve been blessed to run two thriving salons in the heart of Hollywood on the famous Melrose Avenue. Eclipse Salon was my first big venture, and now I’m the proud owner of Legacci by Tracci.
I’m also a transformational coach and author. My book, “Dangerous Mistrust: From the Death of Faith to the Resurrection of Destiny,” is about encouraging women to embrace their true selves and find acceptance and self-love through Christ.
I’m a romantic and I believe in fairytale endings. I love life, and I’m excited to see what else God has in store for me!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is full of ups and downs, but how you handle the challenges can make all the difference. My journey has been a rollercoaster, but with the mentorship of Ron Newton, I became one of the busiest stylists in Oakland. Driven by my dream of becoming a celebrity stylist, I made the move to Los Angeles, only to face unexpected obstacles and lessons along the way.
Upon arriving in L.A., there was a time when I had to live in my car because I hadn’t yet established a name for myself. I had to start from scratch to build a new clientele. Determined not to give up, I decided to commute from Oakland to Los Angeles, taking advantage of my existing clientele back home. Slowly but surely, things started looking up, and I was eventually able to stay in Los Angeles full-time and secure a place to live.
There were many times I considered going back home, but I refused to be a quitter. I stepped out in faith, believing that God would sustain me, and he did. With unwavering determination, Eclipse Salon was born, and I haven’t looked back since.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I addition to being a hair stylist and beauty influencer, I have a 90-day program called “Value Unveiled” designed to coach high-achieving women to rediscover their value and to attract the life and the love that they desire and deserve.
