Today we’d like to introduce you to Simon Kim.
Hi Simon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been a huge fan of EDM. Ever since I attended my first rave in 2010, I fell in love with not only the music but also the community that surrounds it.
Back then, I became interested in DJing and producing music, but I struggled with a lot of self-doubt and insecurities that held me back. It wasn’t until 2024, after seeing a John Summit set, that I finally decided to give it a shot. Inspired, I bought my first DJ controller and committed myself to learning and practicing.
Within that first year, I reconnected with my longtime friend, Art Jordan, who had already been DJing and producing. He gave me the opportunity to play my first gig, going back-to-back with him. That experience led to my second gig, which took place on a huge property in the Valley. It was there that I met so many talented DJs and became part of a larger community.
One of the most influential people I met was Mikezilla. He’s played a huge role in my growth as both a DJ and an artist. Through his Twitch show, Mike’s House, I experienced some of the biggest improvements in my DJing. The support, opportunities, and community helped push me to become more confident behind the decks.
Today, I’ve been DJing for two years and producing music for one year. I still have a lot to learn, and I’m excited for everything that’s ahead. Every set, every track, and every connection continues to teach me something new. More than anything, I genuinely love the music, and I’m grateful to be part of this community and to keep growing as an artist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, most definitely not. I’m still very new to all of this, and I’m learning as I go. There have been plenty of moments where I’ve hit walls or felt completely stuck. Right now, the biggest challenge in my journey is music production. It’s definitely been frustrating at times, but I know that’s all part of the process.
I’m trying to remind myself that every producer I look up to was once exactly where I am now. Progress isn’t always linear, and every obstacle is another opportunity to learn. As frustrating as it can be, I know that if I stay consistent and keep putting in the work, I’ll eventually break through those creative blocks. I’m in this for the long haul because I genuinely love making music and I want to keep growing as both a producer and a DJ.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a DJ and producer performing under the name S.T.A.N., also known as SimonTakesANap. Specializing in Tech House, my sound is built around dark, driving, bass driven, hypnotic grooves that keep the energy high and the dance floor moving.
As a newer artist, I’m committed to constant growth and pushing myself to improve with every set and every track I create. What I’m most proud of is my consistency, work ethic, and determination to become the best artist I can be. My creative process is driven by a genuine passion for making people move, and I strive to deliver sets that create momentum, connection, and an unforgettable atmosphere on the dance floor.
For me, it’s all about the groove.
What are your plans for the future?
At the moment, my main focus is creating music that truly reflects who I am and the sound I want to be known for. I have a few tracks currently in the works, and most of my time is dedicated to developing those and continuing to grow as a producer.
I’m also working on landing more gigs so I can get out there and play in front of people. I won’t lie—it’s tough. The scene is competitive, and opportunities can be hard to come by. But I know every artist has to start somewhere, so I’m staying consistent, putting myself out there, and trusting that the right opportunities will come with time.
For now, it’s all about improving my craft, building my catalog, and enjoying the journey.
