Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharelle Pierce.
Hi Sharelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started in the 5th grade when I felt the need to make light of a situation by making my entire class laugh. I then used my humor at all of our family functions but my dad encouraged me to go to school and get a college degree like other family members. I preceded to get a bachelor’s degree at Olympia College but the stage kept calling my name because I needed to make people feel good with laughter which was also therapeutic for me. One day I patronized Riddles, a comedy club in Chicago and as I was watching the host make the audience laugh, a light bulb went off in my head and I said to myself ‘ I can do that! I’ve been doing that and I want to do that.” I asked one of the comics can I go up on stage. The host agreed and I was given the opportunity to rock out the 8pm & 10pm show. It was when I bomb on the 10pm show that I said oh no I am definitely funny and that led me to keep going harder which landed me on major stages like Chicago’s Jokes N Notes, Laugh Factory and Los Angeles. Improv, Comedy Store, Flappers, H.W Laugh Factory and more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well, nothing about my life has been smooth, but I use it as fuel.
I’ve faced family tragedy that derailed my progress. I’ve had deals that didn’t go through.
I’ve lost friendships, deals that didn’t fall through and family tragedy that set me back from making progress. The hardest struggle I’ve faced when losing my fiancé on the night I was celebrating my birthday and becoming an up-and-coming comedian. This tragedy derailed my career for several years. But, what brought me through was going within spiritually and finding strength again to move forward.
