Hi Ruba, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I literally posted a video on YouTube years ago, and it went viral. From there, I had Publicists reaching out to me to attend red-carpet events and interview their clients. At the time, hosting wasn’t something that I wanted to do. However, I did it with no fear! Of course, it was a lot of trial and error, but I loved what I did and had sooo much fun along the way! It was literally me and my closest friends with a video camera and mic running from one red carpet-event to the next! Shout out to Henry and Chris! I love you guys ❤️❤️❤️
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would be lying to you if I said that I didn’t face any struggles in my career/life.
My mom always tells me, “You live such a charmed life” and I do (!) and so beyond thankful for all of the opportunities and things that my angels and universe has blessed me with. As far as my career is concerned… it has gone exactly the way that it was intended for me. I’ve learned to speak up for myself, do what I want and undo all of the ideas and beliefs that were given to me. I’ve learned to TRULY BE MYSELF, honor my inner child, and to check in with myself daily!!! Still working on that part, hahaha.
THE MOST IMPORTANT one of all for me is to NEVER CHANGE YOURSELF for anyone!!!! In this industry and digital space that we’re in, we are constantly bombarded with images that can sometimes make us feel as if we are not perfect the way that we are. Within the last three years, I’ve had a homecoming and coming back to the essence of RUBA. It was almost as if I had to get reintroduced to the version of me who didn’t seek perfection, who is silly, who enjoys life.
I will say that it has been such a beautiful and necessary moment in myself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a TV Host and Social Media Personality, Actor and Singer. I am known for being the official voice of TikTok and my “man on the street” content, amongst several other things. I would say I am most proud of my ability to connect with people and make them FEEL! What sets me apart from others is the simple fact that I’m just being myself. I can honestly say that throughout the years of me “hosting” I was always told by others what I should do, say and how I should present myself on camera, that I wasn’t able to fully just be me. Now that I’ve gotten a chance to live with me and get to know myself without any outside influences, I am able to speak my mind and say how I really feel, which is what people resonate with the most. That is definitely something that I celebrate and being my authentic self.
It’s kinda of funny because once upon a time, I wished that I was the person that I am today.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love nature, camping, the ocean/hiking getting a little dirty. I am Jamaican. I feel sooo connected and grounded when I am surrounded by nature. Especially the ocean. Oh my gosh, pair me with a really hot man who has an amazing career but also loves camping and doing things in nature – THAT literally gets me going HAHAHA.
