Life & Work with Roxana Izquieta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxana Izquieta.

Hi Roxana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My artistic journey was sparked by a family tragedy.

Part of my emotional healing has been in creating art. I started with creating abstract paintings and then began an interest in sculptural candles.

While my background is in the beauty industry and being an Esthetician as well there is nothing like making these candles.

I’ve met alot of amazing people who have inspired my art along the way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road my art has taken me has been one of trial and error. Learning new techniques has opened my skill in painting. It’s just a beautiful thing to paint, if you don’t like it you can just paint over it.

Also with candle making. If I make a candle and it breaks while demolding or it gets dropped I can remelt the wax. Things that make my art easy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My passion for sculptural candle-making has come from not seeing enough of them. Scented candles in vessels are more popular than sculptural candles.

You don’t see these candles alot. The look on people’s faces when they see some of the candles is just a wonderful feeling of the reason why I make them in the first place. My most popular candles are my skulls with pyrite stone eyes.

I’ve been so lucky to have found an awesome company that designs molds Pacific Mold Design in Murrieta, Ca. This is where I get most of my molds. All my candles are made with a blend of soy & beeswax. The beeswax has a natural scent that assures a clean burn.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking?
My journey has been risky only because I decided to work from home full time to make candles.

I’ve come this far because of the amazing support of friends and family. Everyday i learn something new. Life is too short to not do the things you are passionate about. Do what makes you happy!

There is alot that goes into setting a booth up, especially if you have delicate merchandise. I would say a strong family foundation helps alot in one’s life.
