Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebeca Dourado.
Hi Rebeca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Telling stories with images became my interest while in college, and for my final thesis, I filmed and edited a short documentary about street vendors in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My journey as a professional photographer had begun, and since 2013 I’ve had the opportunity to work in different photography niches, either as the photographer or photographer assistant on a variety of projects. Filming was then my main language and work until I decided to dive into the still photography world and learn all the techniques required to run a professional photo shoot. When I moved to Los Angeles, I decided to focus on working as a still photographer specializing in portraits and headshots for individuals and businesses. My experience includes creating images for actors, creatives, doctors, caregivers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and corporate teams with sessions held in studios located in North Hollywood/Studio City, Van Nuys, Glendale, Beverly Hills, DTLA, and Huntington Beach or at my client’s business location.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Moving to a different country while trying to re-establish my business was not a smooth ride. The cultural differences, somewhat different professional dynamic, and the pandemic one month after I opened my LLC became challenges I was certainly not expecting to experience. Looking back at those moments, I understand today they were all part of the natural process of a cultural, professional, and social combo of big changes in a person’s life, and I am grateful for all the lessons I learned to be where I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work with portraits and headshots for individuals and businesses. My studio environment allows clients to feel comfortable in front of the camera while I direct them to a professional or artistic presentation. I take each person as a unique canvas, with unique personalities and expressions. I pride myself on my professional yet human approach, combined with my awareness of the responsibility of creating a person’s portrait.
What sets me apart is my Group Package service option – ideal for corporate teams. I offer photo shoots at my client’s business location for effortless group sessions.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I value the basics of what makes us humans – the creative aspect combined with the social interactions of many different levels. I value the attention to what makes us comfortable to be who we truly are. Because when we feel safe to just be our authentic selves, we thrive.
We are all different, and I believe this diversity is what connects us.
