Life & Work with Olivia Mackell of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Mackell

Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born in Maryland and grew up in Washington DC. I grew up around performing Arts. Whether I spent time with my creative cousins or at school I was always surrounded by the creativity! After Attending Thomas G Pullen Arts Focus School I continued my creative journey in high school at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and from there I became apart of the dance department. In 2010, I auditioned for a fashion show with a well known Model Coach in the DC metropolitan. From there I began to practice my runway technique. By summer of 2012 I started to really take modeling seriously and knew that I could do this for a living.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being Black Girl with willpower and morals it is a very rocky road. I stand firm in my beliefs and stay close to my roots. When faced with difficulties it’s important to lean into the bible because This industry can test you in ways you’ve never thought possible. From being scammed to being assaulted you never know what can happen when following your dreams thats why it’s important to have a strong support system to back you up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known for my WALK. I call myself Naomi Campbell’s daughter because I turn into a whole different person when I hit the stage. Even though I believe I specialize in Runway, most people love my print work as well. Im most known for the album cover for Schoolboy Q’s ‘Blue Lips’ studio album, which I am very very PROUD OF. To be apart of HipHop history is something I cannot wait to share with my children in the future! What sets me apart from others is my authenticity, living in a city that lacks realness and integrity I absolutely love that I can be my true self and people love me for me.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Always spending time with my best friend Mikiah and being at her house. One summer day we were in her backyard riding her little brother’s dirt bike and I decided to crash it into the woods. I love her family for accepting my craziness then and now!
