Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Resnick.
Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew that making people feel good about themselves was a priority in a career that I would choose for myself. I didn’t know from a young age that I wanted to be a hairstylist or let alone open my own studio. Art has always been a passion of mine, specially painting. I love the way that art makes the world so much more colorful and just adds a little extra something to life. It made me want to be a part of it in some way. I was getting my hair done one day, and my stylist was talking about how doing hair was a form of art for her and in that moment it clicked for me. I could be doing this too! Within a week, I enrolled in beauty school, and the rest is history.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anything in life ever a smooth road? I’ve definitely come along way and been through a lot of hardship on the journey. Specifically the transition from working in a salon to owning my own studio. While it’s all yours, you’re the only one you can count on & that can get hard at times. However, I truly believe that without struggle there is no progress. I am grateful for every short, coming and obstacle along the way as it has only made me a stronger stylist and businesswoman.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
While I’m a hairstylist at my core, my specialty is balayage, a French technique of hand, painting color onto the hair. This process most resembles art in my opinion. It’s like I am Van Gogh and my client’s hair is the canvas.
I am most known for my unique application of color, in which I paint the hair in strokes. One of the things that set me apart from other stylists is my knowledge of color combinations. Many have called me a modern-day hair chemist, for the way I view color. I have been fortunate enough to teach classes in this realm, as I love sharing my knowledge with others.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
This might sound strange, but I define success through failure. I truly believe that it’s not about how many times you fail, it’s how many times you choose to move forward after setbacks that determine how successful you’ll be in the long run.
I also feel like my success is not simply measured monetarily, but has been shown in the relationships I have created with my clients over the years. To have returning clientele support me through my journey, and then refer me to others is a huge measure of success for me.
