Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimica Blasco.
Hi Mimica , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi there! Ive had quite the incredible life and it’s kind of wild to go through and share it with you all. As a young girl I was a dancer, I was part of a competitive dance team that traveled around the country competing and wearing the craziest stage makeup. We looked like clowns up close with pink and purple wet and wild brand makeup (if you were around in the 90’s you know that brand and it’s crazy array of colors. We all helped each other get ready and were quite a team. Outside of dance I did not wear makeup and i didn’t know how to do “normal” makeup for every day. Nobody knew how to teach me and I was shy, awkward and felt very introverted on my appearance. So I decided I wanted to help other girls look their best, I started learning, practicing, getting my hands on every magazine I could at the time (this is pre social media and YouTube days) and started getting the hang of things. I then enrolled in Beauty School to get my cosmetology license and started working at MAC. I got so much experience doing makeovers on customers and making them feel their best. I was HOOKED. I then went and worked as an aesthetician once I got my license and got to really learn about skin and how important it was to take care of your skin and how amazing the makeup looked over well cared for skin. Armed with my full cosmo license I started getting more and more haircut and hair color clients. Eventually I started my own business and did everything from hair color to doing hair and makeup for weddings and special events. My world expanded veryyyy quickly and I started getting referred to celebrities and VIPs attending some pretty swanky and cool events. I saw my clients in magazines and red carpet appearances with MY hair and makeup! I was elated! I started noticing and getting feedback how my visits would genuinely make people happy. I am generally a very happy person. Production is after all the basis of morale and the more I worked the happier I was because I was so productive! Every once in a while I would get someone that would make less of my abilities or just make me feel less. I started seeing that I wasn’t able to bounce back so quickly from those appointments. It was a time of real growth for me me personally. I realized that I didn’t “have” to work with someone like that and started being protective of my own joy and life. I believe if you choose a job you love you’ll never have to work a day in your life and choosing good people who are doing good things in life and treat you with kindness and respect you will continue enjoying life in every way. So now, having been in this industry for over 15 years I can say I have truly figured out the sweet spot! I love what I do and love the beautiful people I get to work with, enjoying their favorite days right along with them whether it be their Oscar nomination, their Wedding or some momentous occasion they want to look their best for. Another thing I recommend to anyone who is in ANY industry; KEEP LEARNING, never assume you know everything there is to know. I always keep up with trends, better products to use, improving my communication skills and every facet of my business. I wish you all success as I do with every person I deal with. We are all on this planet together, joy is contagious, spread that! It’s my secret to success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in hair and makeup. I am most proud when I am part of special events that people want to look their best for.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I have worked in LA for decades. I think this is a magical place. People come here to achieve success, create on their own and do their thing .It is not a place for the weak and I truly see people thrive here who are ambitious and going for the dreams. It is truly a place where dreams come true you just have to hitchhike your wagon to a star and the magic come in.
