Today we’d like to introduce you to MB Gordy.
Hi MB, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started playing drums in Elementary School in Salisbury, MD. and it all just progressed from there. I eventually went to music school at Towson State College in Baltimore MD. I left there and traveled for a bit then finished undergraduate school at Glassboro State College in Glassboro New Jersey (now, Rowan University). Then the next year after graduating, I studied and Played in NY, Philadelphia and south Jersey and then went to Graduate school at California Institute of the Arts. There, I took a deep dive into World Music and 20th Century New Music. Upon Graduating from Cal Arts, I moved into Los Angeles and started networking and breaking into the music scene.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been very fortunate and blessed with a wide variety of musical experiences. Mostly it has been great but there have been challenges along the way…
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve studied and played drumset and a wide variety of percussion instruments. I record a lot of music for Film, TV, Videogames and records. and I also have my own recording studio where we do that as well. I would say that the fact that I play both drumset and percussion as well as have my own studio and a vast array of percussion instruments has helped to get to where I am today. I think that most people I know, know me for the recording work that I have done and still do. But the other side is the touring work that I have done. I have toured with ThreeDog Night, John Tesh, The Doobie Brother, Rita Coolidge, Game of Thrones Live, Josh Groban and Ann Hampton Callaway. I have recorded with Neil Diamond, Adele, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Teddy Pendergrass, Aaron Neville, just to name a few. I’ve also played with the New Jersey Symphony, LA Phil, San Francisco Orchestra, LA Chamber Orchestra, La Jewish Symphony, Los Angels Ballet Orchestra, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and Jacaranda. While I’ve been blessed to have a wide variety of musical experiences and they have all been great and exciting, Two of the most memorable ones were working with Simon Rattle and recording on the new Indiana Jones Movie with John Williams. and probably the one huge thing I am most proud of is winning a grammy with my band Opium Moon.
