Life & Work with Malachi Hopkins of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malachi Hopkins

Malachi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Malachi Hopkins, an African American male from Portland, Oregon with an enchanting story to tell. I am 31 years young but for the last 18 years of my life I have been trying to put together the puzzle pieces of my past and connect the dots of my future. I was involved in a closed adoption when I was 1½ years old and spent majority of my adult life trying to figure out through countless nights who my biological parents were and what were the events that led me to become a ward of the state from the beginning. I must admit as I took the plunge into the journey of discovery it has been quite an adventure through the experience of learning all I have discovered thus far.

I am still connecting the dots and learning more and more as the days pass by, but my journey thus far I feel is truly inspiring and I have overcome and touched on real world issues especially with the BLM movement and social justice. I am in the process of creating a docuseries detailing my journey and reconnection with my biological families and also touch on the alleged murder of my father by the local police department. (a case that was never properly investigated) I believe I can make a difference with the right network and people behind me. I know there are other adoptees that have met their fate by trying to overcome the fear of discovery that I feel together we can give another encouragement to push on through our fears.

I truly believe that my story and experiences have the power to inspire and resonate with millions of people. My mini fire reel that placed 4th in the Netflix “THE GREAT UNTOLD” competition is a testament to my creativity and passion. I understand the legal boundaries and respect them, but I am confident that my message of resilience and determination can make a positive impact. As an adoptee and a gay black man, I have faced unique challenges, but I am determined to share my truth and provide a platform for others who may be struggling. I hope to be given the chance to share my story and help others find their voice as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey of creating a documentary series on my adoption, the search for my biological parents, and the alleged murder of my father by a police department in 1990 has not been an easy road. When seeking investors and celebrities with a personal connection to the subject matter, I look for individuals who are passionate about social justice, advocacy, and using their platform to bring awareness to important issues.

In reaching out to potential investors and celebrities, I prioritize crafting a compelling pitch that highlights the impact and significance of the documentary series. I emphasize the powerful storytelling and emotional depth of the project, as well as the potential to spark important conversations and bring about social change.

I believe that public figures like Kim Kardashian, Madonna, and Angelina Jolie would take a strong interest in my documentary series due to their history of advocacy for social causes and their dedication to using their platforms for positive change. While responses from celebrities and investors can be challenging to secure, I remain hopeful and continue to reach out to individuals who share a passion for the subject matter.

Acquiring funds for this documentary has been a struggle due to the sensitive nature of the content, as well as the competitive landscape of the film and television industry. Despite these challenges, I am committed to finding ways to finance the project and bring it to fruition, as I believe in the power of storytelling to create empathy, understanding, and social change.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As far as my professional endeavors, I am employed at a Native American non-profit organization, where I am dedicated to serving and uplifting my community. Alongside my responsibilities at the non-profit, I frequently travel between Portland and Los Angeles in pursuit of my personal aspirations. I consider myself a creative individual, and I have taken on various small projects as a means of underscoring my capability and determination to achieve my goals.

I firmly believe in my ability to accomplish what I set my mind to, and I am committed to realizing my dreams through hard work and dedication. My journey thus far has been a testament to my unwavering belief in myself, and I am determined to continue pushing forward and reaching new heights in my endeavors.

I am a firm believer in self care and waking up everyday and giving 110% in everything that you do. to do this i center myself by doing a few simple things
1.i eat a simple but fulfilling breakfast. I am currently in love with the brand “Overnight Oats” the flavors and convenience is everything.
2. make time to read. I am currently reading the book “MURTAGH” BY Christopher Paolini I love to be able to escape to a fantasy world and just escape the reality of life sometime. I feel this is actually a defense mechanism that stems from my childhood.
3. have a comfort movie. because I have a lot of anxiety my go to movie is “Lord of the Rings” because I have seen the movie a thousand time it allows my anxiety to lessen because I already know how the movie ends so I don’t have to stress about something I don’t know. these things are some the more recent things I find helpful in trying to be the best I can be always
