Life & Work with Lila Paloma of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lila Paloma

Hi Lila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up surrounded by music. My mom and I would have dance parties in our kitchen to Afrobeats, Jazz, R&B, Rai, Cuban, and Brazilian tunes, and that’s where my love for rhythm and global sounds began. I was born in New York City but raised in Cape Cod, MA, with a multicultural background that shaped my identity. In 2019, I moved to Los Angeles and started working with local producers, which introduced me to EDM and helped me find my voice as an artist. Over the past few years, my sound has evolved into a blend of Afrobeat, R&B, pop, and world music, which reflects both my upbringing and my desire to create empowering, uplifting music. Now, I’m working on my first EP, and I’m excited to share it with the world!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth journey, but it’s been an enjoyable one. My pursuit of music has been very spiritual—finding my voice and letting the most vulnerable parts of myself be heard has been incredibly powerful and healing. Early on, I was heavily influenced by the people around me, but now I feel like I’m finally putting out music that’s 100% me, and that feels really good. Just this summer, I released a single called ‘More Than You Know,’ a sensual Afro-pop anthem that reflects where I am as an artist.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I am a passionate and dedicated songwriter. I write all the lyrics I sing and come up with melodies on my own. Songwriting is something I’ve been passionate about since I was 7 years old—back then, I would write to the few chords I knew on the piano. Now, I’m in LA, writing and recording my original songs, and I feel so grateful to have come this far. I’ve also had the opportunity to write for other upcoming artists, which has been such a rewarding experience. Songwriting is what drives me, and being able to create music that is authentically mine is something I’m incredibly proud of. What sets me apart is that every song I release is deeply personal, from the lyrics to the melodies. I’m always striving to put the most vulnerable parts of myself into my music, and that’s what makes it powerful.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is discovering life. Experiencing life and uncovering different aspects of myself so I can evolve brings me immense joy. It’s magical to see the dreams I had as a kid manifest into my adult reality. I’m a person who loves to laugh—sarcasm and accents always bring a smile to my face. I enjoy being playful with life, spending time in nature, and conversing with people to understand how they perceive the world. I consider myself a student of life, and I cherish the journey of discovering what it means to be human today.
