Life & Work with Kayla Starr of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Starr

Hi Kayla , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi My name is Kayla Starr. To give you a little back ground I’ve been singing since I could talk. My mom told me when I was baby, she would put the mic up to my mouth and I would make a noise, when she pulled it away I’d be silent. She always knew I was going to be a singer. My mom is actually a singer herself and my dad is a musician. I come from a beautiful musical family. I grew up listening to all different kinds of music. Throughout grade school, I joined every single choir I possibly could landing first and second soprano positions. After I graduated high school, I went straight to musicians institute and that’s when my career took off. I formed a garage band and started playing shows around the city. I made a name for myself in the city and thats when people started referring me for gigs. Stephen Colbert was my first television performance and from there it was a domino effect.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Definitely not but it’s a beautiful journey because I’m in love with what I do. Struggling is a part of the process even after you make it. The music industry is pretty tough and can be very daunting. You have to be extremely strong to survive in this world. There are so many ups and downs but keep going no matter what!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a musical artist and a background vocalist. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of working with different major artists like Macy Gray, Kanye West, Sabrina Carpenter, and more. I’ve been on Late Night shows including Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, CONAN, and the Late Late show with James Corden. I’ve been on international tours and played some of the largest festivals. I have to say Lollapalooza in Brazil was one of my favorite festivals to play. 100,000 people were in the audience. I tear up sometimes when I think about that crowd. Brazil showed me so much love and I will never forget them. As an artist, I’ve been developing my sound and almost finished with my first full length album. I like to blend genre’s and I’ve created my own tone that is signature to my style. I just filmed a live performance at Coke Studios with Coca Cola. My latest single “4 Leaf Clover” is available on all streaming platforms. Its my first music video, so make sure you support your girl and go check it out on my YouTube channel!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I have a fear of falling, but I enjoy cliff diving! Make it make sense
