Today we’d like to introduce you to Kainoa Schreier
Hi Kainoa , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Everything started in Temecula. Which for those who don’t know is about an hour and a half on a good day, without traffic from Los Angeles. It’s a cute little boring cowboy suburbia with a shopping mall, casino and friends and enemies alike.
Without much else to do here it really feels at least to me the only interesting thing I could do for myself is make literally any kind of art. Whether that be music, or photography, making clothes or really anything that I find interesting or fun, and I think right now i’m still in figuring out what that is and thankfully being so close to Los Angeles, it seemed almost by fate I have ended up working in one of the most potent artistic cities in the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hell no it has not been. It still isn’t either. Every day it feels like i’m going to war with being lazy, or unmotivated, or uninspired, or feeling like it’s difficult to see the potential for success. But despite that every day for whatever reason maybe even if it’s just gods will, I find that footing and that path forward and above all am pushed by desire to see where it all leads.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So I am both blessed and cursed with the “Jack of All Trades” syndrome. I want to be doing everything and instead of getting really good or mastering one thing I’m instead what feels like getting sort of good at a lot of things. The reason I say it’s both a blessing and a curse is because it really does feel like my well for creativity is bottomless and i’ll never run out of art to make and that alone is invaluable. But at the same time I can feel spread thin when it comes to how much I can actually execute. I would say photography is my main focus right now. I absolutely am a nostalgic person so the Idea of holding on to images feels like I’m holding onto tangible memories. I specialize in both event and fashion photography so if you’re in the cool part of LA night life then you have seen me taking pictures or been in them. I do like making music as well, I’m also a part of the current Los Angeles electronic new wave scene, I’m in a band with my girlfriend and I DJ at a lot of local clubs. I’d say what sets me apart is how much of a novice I really am but how much I am able to convince you I am not. I’m super new to both photography and music but that’s not to say i’m not super professional or know what is good or bad. What really sets me apart is that I have been around and consuming these forms of art forever so I basically am ready to stop watching from the sidelines and force myself into everything for better or worse.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I would love to work with literally anybody. The best way would be to just reach out to me in whatever way is best. I love to talk to people and meet new friends. So if you need a fashion campaign shot, have a cool event you need pictures of or a DJ who knows what all the cool kids are playing then send me an email: [email protected] or even send me a DM on instagram @bonzkai
