Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ross.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Where to begin! Born just outside of Los Angeles, I grew up in a suburb of that city. At an early age, I developed an interest in acting and enrolled in acting classes when I was in elementary school, but it wasn’t until I went to college that I realized that this could be a career path for me. During the course of pursuing my degree, I was cast as a lead in a variety of student projects, as well as several independent films, which really sparked my interest and made me realize that this was the path I was meant to take. In the years following my graduation from college, I had the opportunity to live in Miami for a time and when moving back to Hollywood, I began working at WCOBM as a host. I was then the lead in a reality tv show as well as several short films which premiered at Cannes and were short-listed for the Oscars. Other work includes hosting over 25 episodes of Big Review TV, presenting at the Hollywood Now Film Festival, reporting for Backstage Weekly, and being the LA Correspondent for Waves & Runways. Outside of that, I was a keynote speaker for iTalk Philadelphia and hosted the red carpet at iTalk Los Angeles. Center Stage, Vegas Unlimited, Indie Activity, Action Magazine, Cinderella of New York, Juwai, Bizbooast, JAMO Magazine, Entertainment Network Live, It Can By You, Livein Style Magazine, BuzzFeed and CBS are just a few of the outlets I have been featured on.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not always been. In the aftermath of the events of 2020, we have seen so many changes to our lives, and it still hasn’t gotten back to normal since then. As it turned out, as well as Covid ruining all of my plans, I had to go through the grief of the passing of my father on top of everything else. Acting is a very competitive field. Rejection is a constant part of an actor’s life. You may attend numerous auditions without landing a role, which can be emotionally taxing, stressful, and frustrating. Success is highly unpredictable, especially now after the pandemic and the uncertain duration of the strikes.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an award-winning actress, reporter, and publicist with a variety of credits, including appearances on television and in films. I have contributed to Heart of Hollywood Magazine since August 2022. With my versatility, I am capable of excelling with comedy, drama, unscripted, as well as hosting based on my diverse experience. The ability to portray a wide range of characters and emotions in one of my greatest strengths as an actress. With my dynamic personality, I am able to work effectively in fast-paced environments and maintain my own pace without losing focus. Whenever I decide to accomplish something, I give all off my effort to make sure that it is as successful as possible. The fact that I am a reporter for several blogs as well as a publicist with over 250 media placements, is also an added bonus. Each project I work on, I learn something new and therefore appreciative one way or another. I am very proud that I created my own reality show, “Hollywood Unexpected”, which took place mostly in the Virginia countryside. Recently, I filmed the pilot for “Chasing Stars”, an unscripted comedic – drama with an all-female lead cast and crew.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My career has been filled with many risks that I have had to take. You will never be able to know how the final product will look, the manner in which you or your character will be presented until after the film or television show has already been finished, no matter how things go on the set. No matter what you think of the results, you have to accept them regardless of how you feel about them. By taking risks , you learn how to conquer your fears. It was the first time I have produced a television show and I had never been to Virginia prior to filming Hollywood Unexpected. Taking that step out of my comfort zone really challenged me. To me, it’s extremely important to know who you are as a person , what your boundaries are, and take risks accordingly based on that knowledge.
