I embarked on my life’s journey in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, my birthplace. Growing up in this vibrant city, I was immersed in its rich cultural tapestry, savoring its diverse cuisine and partaking in traditional events that left a profound mark on my upbringing. During my formative years, I ventured into athletics, dedicating myself to the high jump and sprinting with rigorous training sessions at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil. Alongside my athletic pursuits, my curiosity for the world of cinema took root. I found myself captivated by the magic of movies, and little did I know that this passion would eventually lead me on a path to pursue a career in filmmaking. Simultaneously, I pursued my education at the Alice Smith School, a place that would provide the foundation for my future endeavors.

Academically, I wasn’t particularly inclined towards traditional subjects, but I had a strong passion for the arts. Media and Theatre Studies always fascinated me, and I found myself drawn to the creative aspects of these disciplines. It was during my time exploring these fields that I stumbled upon a new fascination – theatrical lighting. In the world of Theatre Studies, I became captivated by the intricate art of lighting design. The way lighting could transform a stage set the mood, and enhance the storytelling was nothing short of magical to me. This newfound interest opened up a whole new avenue in my creative journey and paved the way for my exploration into the world of theatrical lighting.

It was within this time I had also been deeply involved in the worlds of esports and competitive gaming, particularly in the League of Legends scene. I was more than just a casual player; I was wholeheartedly immersed in the competitive gaming community, and I can tell you, it was quite the adventure! This journey not only provided me with a firsthand glimpse of the immense potential within the digital entertainment industry but also led me to achieve a high level of expertise. I ranked as a Challenger player, a testament to the dedication and commitment I poured into mastering the game. My genuine passion for esports and competitive gaming ignited my curiosity in various creative fields.

Upon graduating from high school, I embarked on a pivotal journey by interning at a production house. Little did I know that this experience would be nothing like I had expected—it was so much more, and I absolutely loved it. Witnessing the inner workings of a production house up close was an eye-opening experience that further fueled my passion for the world of entertainment. Moreover, this opportunity allowed me to connect with a diverse group of individuals from the industry, and I cherished every interaction. I had the privilege of learning from experienced professionals, acquiring new skills, and gaining insights that I couldn’t have obtained elsewhere. It was a transformative period in my life that set the stage for my continued pursuit of a career in the entertainment world.

I decided to move to Los Angeles, California to further pursue my career in filmmaking. I had always harboured an unwavering dream of becoming part of the film and entertainment industry. With this vision in mind, I made a life-changing decision to relocate to Los Angeles, the epicentre of the entertainment world. Moving to Los Angeles wasn’t without its challenges, but it has been an exhilarating journey. I’ve had the privilege of working on various projects, collaborating with incredibly talented individuals, and immersing myself in the dynamic, creative atmosphere of the city. My story continues to evolve, and I’m eager to embrace the limitless opportunities that lie ahead. It’s a journey defined by passion, tenacity, and an unshakeable belief that through hard work and dedication, we can transform our dreams into reality.

Undoubtedly, the journey in the world of cinematography has been both incredibly rewarding and challenging. Like many, I’ve navigated a path that’s not always smooth, especially in an industry known for its competitive nature and the inherent challenges of working as a freelance cinematographer.

One significant hurdle was the transition to a new country, particularly when I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue my career in filmmaking. While it was an exciting decision, it also came with its share of uncertainties and adjustments. Adapting to a new environment, establishing professional networks, and understanding the intricacies of the local industry was a learning curve in itself.

Moreover, the cinematography field is continuously evolving, with new techniques, lighting technologies, and camera advancements emerging at a rapid pace. Staying at the forefront of these innovations is both exhilarating and demanding. It requires a commitment to constant learning and adaptation, as well as a willingness to collaborate with new colleagues who bring fresh perspectives and insights.

The freelance nature of the industry also brings its unique set of challenges, such as securing consistent projects and managing the ebb and flow of work opportunities. However, these challenges have only reinforced my determination and resilience, driving me to strive for excellence in every project I undertake.
