Today we’d like to introduce you to James Cunningham.
Hi James , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Neverdead was started really as an artistic idea in 2019 when I moved to Los Angeles. Specifically North Hollywood. My background is in film, but I am also a writer and visual artist and am tremendously inspired by classic Hollywood and the noir films of the 40s and 50s. While our focus remains on producing and creating original films and short films, Neverdead Productions also maintains a strong focus in graphic design and fiction writing.
In 2020 I became a published author for the first time when my novella “Beyond the Door of Darkness” was picked up by two separate publishing houses. The original novella was turned into a 3-part series centered around the Long Island private detective, Larry Petals. In march, 2025 the rights to the ‘Larry Petals Detective Agency’ were returned back to Neverdead Productions and we are in the process of expanding the universe and creating more original stories.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always bumps and obstacles to overcome, but that’s the way it goes. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. I think it’s important to celebrate the wins when they come and not to focus on the negative stuff.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a production company you need to have vision. I think the voices and style we have at Neverdead Productions sets us apart from other companies. It’s our dedication to original storytelling that has helped us the most. Especially in today’s day and age.
It’s not the ‘new wave,’ it’s the ‘next wave.’
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just be yourself. People respond to authenticity no matter what your passions are. If you’re being honest to yourself any connections you make will be for the right reasons.
