Life & Work with Izzy Escobar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Izzy Escobar. They and their team shared their story with us below:

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my biggest struggles as actually turned out to be the thing I am the most grateful for. 

Many people would always tell me they didn’t understand my genre/ voice/ vision because it doesn’t “fit in a box”. I love all music! Pop, soul, RnB, Classical, Theatre, you name it! think this tends to confuse people but the truth is… I just love music. Music to me is my comfort, and my first love. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart is my vocal versatility and ability to write songs on the spot. 

I have been training in vocal improv since I learned how to read music at age four. I always found that improv brought to the greatest songs for me because it is the most raw, authentic, and flittered version of the song. And that’s what is beautiful about it. You are singing from the heart and not trying to “sound good”. What you get is what you get! 

I used to think these unique attributes were the things holding me back because people didn’t understand them- but now I resize it’s quite the opposite. 

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I am hopeful that the music industry will return back to cherishing meaningful lyrics, storytelling, and new ideas! 

I think now in the age of social media, people are craving authenticity more than anything. Authentic, human, and real storytellers are what we need.
