Life & Work with Gillian Brown of Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gillian Brown

Hi Gillian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am lucky to have parents that have raised me on great cinema. I have carried this from childhood to adulthood. From there, in the marine corps, so many times on deployments, film has saved me more times than I can count. Thankfully to the marine corps I am able to go to film school for free and get to learn. It’s more than I could of ever dreamed, and it’s only going up from here!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth doing is ever a smooth road. I did not think of going to film school or even thought of this as a career I could achieve. From financial worries to wondering if I would have the mental and physical strength after the marine corps and being injured, but I made the journey anyways. Entirely worth it, I’d say.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a relatively new person to this film industry as I am a new student. That being said, I spent the last 5 years in the marine corps as an aviation mechanic on MV-22 ospreys. I became a collateral duty inspector, in which I was in charge of the jobs under my charge and one on one with pilots with what they need and questions they might have. I worked very hard for this particular title. I was doing work and had responsibilities that far exceeded my rank. I was happy to learn all that I did, it most definitely prepared me for the real world.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a pretty open book so something new would be a little hard. For this, I would say that I am very much into extreme sports or adventures, anything that I fear I do try to face. Skydiving, cliff jumping, free diving and dirt biking for example. All of these I look to for challenging myself whenever I fall short.
