Life & Work with Daniel Wargo of Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Wargo

Hi Daniel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Southern California native and grew up with musician parents, so I was always exposed to the arts and creativity from a young age. I ended up falling in love with performing in High School and knew that I wanted to make a career in entertainment. That goal has taken a lot of different shapes and forms over the years, including doing musical theatre, film and working as a pianist and singer for over a decade. Then during the pandemic, as many of these stories start, I had lost most of my work and decided to pursue making content as a way to explore my creativity and give myself opportunity to perform and (hopefully) make people laugh a little. I wasn’t sure what would happen when I started, but it ended up changing my life. Now I make content for a living in the food space, which had become a hobby of mine over the years and it’s been one of the best chapters of my life yet.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like anything in life, my journey has been far from smooth. There have been and continue to be many ups and downs. By starting my content creation journey I essentially had to make space for myself in a new industry. I had to learn brand new skills, be heavily critical of the work that I was putting out and learn to work for myself in a way that was effective. There are a lot of unknowns along this journey. It’s hard to gauge what is going to be entertaining, educational and/or effective to my community. It’s a constant learning experience filled with collecting data and trying new things. As soon as I feel I’ve figured something out, something changes and that thing no longer works for me. However, I have learned to be heavily adaptive and not too stuck on anything in particular because of this. There are times where I feel that my work isn’t good and I should throw everything out and start fresh. It’s hard not to take things personally when you’re putting yourself out there, but through the journey I’ve definitely learned to roll with the punches a little more and also that nothing lasts forever. If I’m killing it one week with my videos, the next week is probably going to be terrible. And that’s just the way this goes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a content creator and focus mainly on entertaining content in the food space. I run a page called Forking Around on all platforms where I explore food in Los Angeles, Orange County and anywhere else I happen to be in addition to exploring the latest food trends and chain releases. I’m proud of the community that I’ve created by starting this journey. I started with nothing and have grown to having an amazing community of people who love food and want to laugh through pure hard work and dedication. I love the work that my colleagues do and love how different we all are. My personality is all over my content and I try to share as much of myself and my sense of humor as I can and that’s something that only I can do. I always like to say I’m not a critic, I’m an entertainer. And if you disagree with my thoughts on a restaurant or item of food, that’s totally cool. If you weren’t entertained by the content though, then I have more work to do.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
The only thing I would mention to people is that if there is something you want to do in your life then you should just work as hard as you can toward that thing every single day and good things will happen. It may not look like what you want, but it’s going to be different and better.
