Life & Work with Carolyn Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Scott.

Carolyn Scott

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started The Healthy Voyager back in 2006 as a resource to help other travelers with special dietary issues discover travel in new and exciting ways. Having gone vegan in 1998 and traveling extensively for work, I came up with ways to be able to enjoy travel without having to worry about what I was going to eat, and so in 2005, The Healthy Voyager was born. I began to pitch the show in 2005 to the big networks, but no one was willing to take a chance on a plant-based travel show at the time, so owning my own PR firm and also having a film background, I launched the show and built the brand on my own. This was pre-social media, so I was able to build an audience organically online via my blog and online show and it has since grown to full healthy and green living brand with an award-winning travel show, cooking show, a number of cookbooks and products as well as my regular stints on tv as a healthy and sustainable travel and lifestyle expert. Being a holistic nutritionist and vegan chef as well, I consult hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, theme parks, corporations, and individuals on nutrition as well as creating healthy, delicious, plant and gluten-free menus worldwide.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha no way! Since I began before social media, everything was harder, and with each step, I had to teach myself how to do everything from teaching myself HTML to build a site (there was no Wix or Squarespace back then, or even WordPress) to creating physical media kits and more. Plus, because I was the first person doing what I was doing in my field, it was a lonely and difficult road to forge, but well worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a media personality, award-winning travel and cooking show host, functional holistic nutritionist, vegan chef, best-selling cookbook author, journalist, consultant, speaker, and entrepreneur. I was the first vegan travel show and launched my show and whole brand on my own and the fact that it’s so well received and still going strong after all these years, I’m super proud of that!

I host my travel show, The Healthy Voyager, and it is available on Go Traveler. I also do quite a bit of TV as a guest expert on shows. Additionally, I run my site and brand and speak around the world at conferences, conventions, private businesses, military bases, schools, and events. I consult restaurants, theme parks, cruise lines. Hotels and tourism boards by educating and creating healthy and special diet recipes, menus, and programs to implement in a wide variety of ways.

I’m launching my 4th cookbook this year, my first airport cafe, and am a partner in an incredible retreat property in Baja, California, helping people live well every day in every way!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was born in Bogota; I speak 5 languages, and I do all sorts of voiceover work from cartoons to industrials and singing I am also a screenwriter and novel writer! I published my first novel in 2022, a Mrs. Claus origin story called When Cris Met Kringle.
