Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Yeates
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My personal story is deeply rooted in my upbringing in Eastland, Texas, where my passion for design was first ignited by my family’s vibrant and diverse aesthetics. I was fortunate to be surrounded by strong, creative women—my step-mother had a love for antiquing, my four grandmothers- who all had beautifully styled homes, and my mother, with an incredible artistic sensibility. Growing up in this environment, I was immersed in a world where diversity of style and creativity were not only celebrated but also deeply valued. This early exposure laid the foundation for my distinctive approach to interior design, which is all about honoring one’s past while enhancing the future for generations to come.
I first established myself in Dallas as a lawyer and radio host. However, a pivotal moment in my life occurred when a renowned designer recognized my innate talent for design and encouraged me to pursue what was truly my passion. It was in 2001 that I made the bold decision to shift my career into design, and soon after, I moved to California. This move, coupled with the profound experiences of motherhood, really inspired me to focus on creating interiors that are not just beautiful, but meaningful and lasting.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I face is the rise of DIY home shows and online shopping, which have popularized ‘quick fixes’ and ‘fast furniture.’ While these trends offer convenience, they often lead to massive waste and a decline in quality, with many opting for immediate gratification over timeless architecture and handmade furnishings. My challenge—and passion—lies in guiding clients away from these fleeting solutions and towards investing in designs that are not only beautiful but also built to last and truly reflective of their unique style.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work encompasses Design Build, Interior Design, and curating a bespoke furniture collection called The Modern Hepburn. In Design Build, I oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring every element aligns with a cohesive vision. My Interior Design practice focuses on creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional, tailored to each client’s unique style. The Modern Hepburn, inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s timeless elegance, encapsulates my design philosophy. Each piece in this collection—from sleek chairs to elegant tables—is crafted with precision, emphasizing grace, sophistication, and environmental consciousness. My goal is to offer clients a transformative experience that honors the past, paves the way for a sustainable future, and fosters family togetherness through design.”
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my most vivid childhood memories is of dressing up as Wonder Woman and racing across the wide-open spaces of West Texas, full of determination to make ‘the world’ a better place. Even as a child, I had this strong sense of purpose, a belief that I could make a difference, no matter how big or small.
