Today we’d like to introduce you to Arsen Martirosian.
Hi Arsen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started photography about five years ago, just taking pictures of people and places that caught my eye. Over time, I became more curious — not just about the images, but the stories behind them.
Then I broke my leg. I couldn’t walk for nearly a year, and during that time, I lost all my clients. But instead of stepping away from creative work, I got more interested in film. I wanted to know how movies were made, so when I could walk again, I started showing up on sets as a background actor — not for the screen time, but to observe.
That’s where I discovered behind-the-scenes work. I saw how every role on set mattered, how everyone brought their own creative strengths. It reminded me of why I loved photography in the first place — capturing moments that usually go unnoticed.
Now, I work as a BTS photographer, learning from every set I’m on. I’m building toward making my own films.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was a time when it was hard to find jobs in the filmmaking industry. Even when I found work, there was always something new to learn and ways I had to adapt to each set
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a behind-the-scenes photographer, and I’m proud to be part of every set I’ve been on — and every one I’ll be on in the future. Each project teaches me something new, and I take pride in capturing the moments most people don’t see — the hard work, the focus, the fun, and the in-between.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve taken a lot of personal risks to pursue this work — flying out to different states for shoots or driving two, sometimes even twelve hours, just to make it to a premiere or a set. There’s never a guarantee it’ll lead to the next job, but I show up anyway because I believe in being present. Every time I take those leaps, I grow
