Life & Work with Alina Zamaltdinova of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Zamaltdinova

Hi Alina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello! my name is Alina Zamaltdinova
In a world full of fleeting moments, i found my anchor in the art of photography. i am a girl with an insatiable passion for capturing life’s essence through my lens. My love affair with photography began at a young age when i stumbled upon my uncle’s old camera in the attic. Little did i know that this discovery would ignite a flame that would shape my life’s purpose.
Photography, to me, is not just about pointing a camera and clicking a button; it’s an extraordinary adventure of curiosity. Every person i meet, every place i visit, and every emotion i witness becomes an opportunity to delve deeper into the vast tapestry of human experiences. Whether it’s the wrinkled smile of an elderly couple or the laughter of children running through a sun-kissed field, i strive to encapsulate the essence of those precious moments that touch the soul.
people. Each face tells a unique story, and i am humbled to be the one to unravel those narratives through my art. i have been fortunate to document various cultures and communities, breaking down barriers and connecting with people on a profound level. there’s an inexplicable joy in making someone feel seen and understood through the images i create.
Emotion is the heartbeat of my photography. The laughter, tears, excitement, and vulnerability that i encounter in my subjects are my driving force. I believe that every emotion has its own distinct charm, and my aim is to immortalize these feelings through my work. Whether it’s a candid shot of lovers lost in each other’s gaze or a portrait capturing the quiet strength of an individual, my camera serves as a translator of emotions.
Photography, is the dance between light and shadows. I am continually mesmerized by the interplay of illumination and darkness, for it mirrors the essence of life itself. Just as light breathes life into a photograph, it is in the shadows where secrets lie, waiting to be unveiled. My art revolves around finding beauty in the intermingling of these elements—infusing my images with depth, emotion, and a sense of mystery.
Photography is more than just a profession for me; it’s an intrinsic part of who i am. it has taught me to appreciate the beauty in the ordinary, to cherish the connections we forge with others, and to embrace the ever-changing landscape of life. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and to have the privilege of witnessing life through a lens that reflects both the world and the photographer’s heart.
so join me on this incredible journey as i continue to explore the boundless horizons of photography, uncovering the stories that make us human, one frame at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey began in a small town in Kazakhstan where I didn’t have access to the Internet, but I did have magazine subscriptions. I watched with delight at the pictures, the faces, lines, shadows, depth and dream of one day being able to take photos like this.
One day I was in the attic and came across my uncle’s old camera. Old, covered in dust, it caused me incredible awe. It was as if I had met an old good friend. The camera turned out to be inconvenient for the young photographer. But I was so impressed. All the following summer days I picked berries in the vegetable garden and sold them to buy my first simple film camera. I took pictures of everything. I think I even took my first selfie. 🙂

Unfortunately, I lost my parents at a young age, and the photo went into hiding.

When I turned 16 I left my grandmother’s house had to start working to pay for my education and housing, leaving little time for photography. However, my unwavering desire to capture moments through a lens continued to fuel my dreams.
I took on various jobs, persevering until I was finally able to afford my first professional camera and kickstart my career as a photographer. It was then that I truly began to live, to create, to make my mark in the world of photography.
Now, here I am in downtown Los Angeles, Some of my work has been printed in the magazine, last month I shot my first cover. A billboard displaying one of my photographs hangs proudly in downtown L.A. Was the journey difficult? Absolutely. Was it worth it? Without a doubt. Every obstacle, every sacrifice, every moment of doubt was a stepping stone towards achieving my dream. And I know this is just the beginning of a remarkable journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One day a young man wrote to me, he wanted a photo shoot for himself. I laid out all the steps for him in great detail. And then he asked if I would provide him with clothes, then I couldn’t afford to have a stock of men’s clothes for the photo shoot and told him that we could look through his closet and I would be happy to help him with that. Then he said to me: if I prepare my clothes, then what will you do? Just pushing a button?
It really hurt me at the time. I mean, he didn’t work with me. He didn’t know what every photo shoot and every person meant to me.
Every person who trusted me and came to me for a photo shoot is special. Anyone can probably just push a button. I want to get to know his soul. I want to capture emotions, feelings. The deep, hidden things you don’t show everyone. Who we really are. I remember every face, every name. When I do retouching, selecting photos, I catch myself smiling at these people. Their eyes, smiles, wrinkles, freckles. It’s all so precious!

It’s a thrill to know that by taking pictures I can stop time. These pictures will delight people through the years. And I, the person with the camera was part of it.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The most important qualities I value in people are empathy and honesty. To me, authenticity is key. I believe in the power of genuine connections and the ability to truly understand and empathize with others. Being able to be vulnerable, open, and honest is what builds strong relationships and fosters trust. I value those who are true to themselves and others, who don’t just appear a certain way but truly are that way. Empathy allows us to walk in someone else’s shoes, to understand their emotions and experiences, and to offer support and compassion. Honesty builds the foundation of trust and respect in any relationship. For me, these qualities are what make a person truly admirable and worth having in my life. This is very important in life as well as in business.
