Today we’d like to introduce you to Perdell Richardson.
Born in Riverside California and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Perdell Richardson is the oldest of nine siblings. Growing up Perdell wanted to become an actor and so he began following his dreams by attending acting school and taking part in church plays and commercials. At age 14, Perdell received a camcorder as a gift from his father. From that point on, Perdell went on to film several movies, casting his siblings as actors. Among his first movies were Black Power Ranger and The Haunted House. After high school, Perdell turned down his full scholarship to Bowling Green State University and decided to attend Columbia College Chicago for its film program. While attending Columbia College, Perdell started his film productions company and named it Perdell Productions LLC. He produced and directed his first feature film entitled The Scam under his company. After the success of his films, Perdell was able to join the Director Guild of America (DGA). Perdell is currently working on his next feature film, “The Seventh Commandment” and One Last Con that is set to be shot by the end of 2019
Has it been a smooth road?
No, the road hasn’t been smooth. There is a lot of ups and downs. It is very hard in the beginning but gets easier as time passes. My biggest advice I would say is to network. “Your network is your net worth.”
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a director, cinematographer, and editor. I have shot over 100 projects, from feature films, short films, web series, reality shows, corporate videos, commercials, and music videos.
I specialize in producing, directing and editing. My passion for shooting, coupled with exceptional technical skills, definitely helps in creating the best quality content.
I am proud of the first feature film that I directed and the success that it had.
What sets me apart from others is that I am a one man stop.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Your friends that are in the same industry is your network. A mentor can be anyone that is ahead of you that can lead and guide you down the right path.
