Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Garvin.
Hannah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography has always been a big part of my life, so it only made sense for me to try and make some money while doing what I love. I started my photography business almost three years ago and have been working primarily with women-led brands, which I absolutely love. I’ve been continually learning how to balance running my business while also being a full-time mom, and the journey has been tiring at times, but I’m so thankful to have been able to grow a small business alongside my family.
I also started making ceramics after my daughter was born. I love to create items that are useful around home and beautiful to look at. I really love this side of my brand – it’s very satisfying being able to work with my hands, tech-free, to create beautiful things.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve worked hard and been blessed with amazing clients that come my way and lovely people who support me in my creative endeavors.
I’m a pretty positive person, and I think that attitude has helped me tremendously in my creative career. It’s also so incredibly helpful to have other creative women to connect with so you’re not alone in the journey!
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
In my photography – I work primarily with women-led brands to create content that help them tell their story. I like to shoot simple, bright images and bring in lots of natural elements in my styling. The colors, textures, light, and landscape of California always inspire my work.
And my ceramics are mostly dinner + homeware, each piece is unique. I love to create creamy speckled dishes that look beautiful on a table.
I think what sets me apart in my photography and ceramics is my specific, simple aesthetic, I always create what I think is beautiful and thankful others seem to love it too.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
