Life & Work with Bijan Ross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bijan Ross.

Hi Bijan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a plus-size model/content creator. I started my modeling journey earlier last year with just posting pictures on Instagram showing plus size fashion and plus size appreciation. My message of showing the fashion/modeling industry that all people are beautiful and should be represented to the masses has always been important not only to myself but to so many others as well. Fatphobia and body discrimination is very much an issue today in our world and showing individuals to love themselves and their bodies is the type of self-love that can positively impact us all.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. The industry believes that a certain skin tone and body size is the ideal “beauty” for the entire world and that is NOT ok. This is only creating self-hate and discrimination towards everyone else that doesn’t fit that ideal of this perfect model and perfect beauty. The false image of beauty has created so much violence towards fat bodies, POC…everyone…etc.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Plus-Size Model and Content Creator. I believe I’m known for some of the shoots I’ve been included in with various brands, lol but I’m still very new to the modeling world. For my own goals, I’m very proud of being signed to an agency only modeling after a couple of months and partnering with various brands to continue showing plus-size modeling and inclusive sizes for fashion. In terms of our community, I am beyond proud of how far we have come in plus-size fashion and including plus models in all areas of the fashion industry.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
To continue to think of yourself first but to never forget that it takes nothing to help someone in need.
