Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Marco Toppi of Venice Beach

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marco Toppi. Check out our conversation below.

Marco, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
My camera. I practically always carry it with me in my free time. I like to photograph what I see around me, even places I frequent every day that I might see from a different perspective or light at that moment. When my eye is inside the lens, I become one with the scene and it’s as if there’s nothing else around me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marco and I’m from Italy. I’m a personal trainer by profession, but in my spare time I enjoy traveling and creating content about my itineraries. I’m not an influencer; I just want to share what fascinates me and how I experienced it, and perhaps inspire others. I don’t have sponsors, partnerships, or anything else; I do this purely for passion.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was younger, I was very impressionable and soft-hearted, and I didn’t have much self-confidence. Then, when life forced me to fend for myself, I completely changed, becoming self-confident, determined, and gritty, and this made my life improve.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d say that everything he’s going through will help him become the person I am today. I’m proud of who I am and how I approach life, and if it weren’t for my past, maybe I wouldn’t be able to say this today.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I show others who I really am, with my strengths and weaknesses, and I expect the same from others because we’re all different, and I enjoy constructive discussions. If you hide who you are, you end up creating misunderstandings and it always ends badly.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I always do what I want to do, I don’t let others influence me, so yes, I’m doing what I was born to do because I enjoy everything I do, from work to hobbies to the people I hang out with, and so on. I live the life I want.
