Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Joey Babylon of Big Bear Lake

Joey Babylon shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Joey, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A moment that really made me feel proud was when I was singing christmas carols for my holiday residency. A kid told me “wowwww you have the best voice in the world”. It actually made me tear up because it just meant so much to me. I got to tell them how I sing and how they can learn how to sing to.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Joey Babylon and Im singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and model. I have been recording and producing music for the last 6 years of my life. I am currently working on my first album. Right now I have a holiday residency playing as Jack Frost where I sing christmas carols in a crooner fashion 5 days a week. I started singing and making music around the age of 10. My father was a folk musician and I grew up in the church. Music always had great significance to me. Its been a way of navigating new love, loss, and finding hope and purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say my mother. My mother just really saw each of my siblings and I as we are and our gifts. It almost felt like the same way God sees me. My mother passed when I was 14 to suicide. I still feel her presence with me and believe she is gently guiding me. I feel a lot of confidence and self-acceptance when I think of the way my mother viewed me.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’re ready as you are. Reject the criticism of others if it doesn’t build you up. Often they don’t understand themselves and they definitely do not understand you.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Probably my family, music, and whatever new crush I develop lol.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Scrolling on social media and tiktok passing the time.
