Good morning Jackie, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? When was the last time you felt true joy?
When I was on the Chicago River Architectural Tour, listening to the guide, but taking amazing photos for use with articles for The Historic Traveler and in my photo gallery www.LapinGallery.com . I am never happier then when I am traveling, learning about history and taking photos!

What am I working on next…Connecting with sponsors and publishers who would like to reach our audience. And my next planned trip to Eqypt.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I was 11, I decided I wanted to be a sportswriter, when there were no women sportswriters. But I pursued it with all of my heart and at 20, I was at the Detroit Free Press; at 21 I was at the Associated Press and on the front pages of the LA Times; at 22, I was at the Washington Post and had co-hosted a season of Dodger Dugout on Channel 11 in Los Angeles. The moment I knew my power was when I was pursued to do an interview on the NBC National Saturday Baseball Game of the Week when I broke the press box barrier in Detroit stadium.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
My father had cancer when I was 4, He recovered, but he elected to start over in another part of the state. But the children were a reflection of their very unwelcoming parents and I was instantly rejected as an outsider. I received the message I was unlikable.
Fortunately I found my love of writing and the LA Dodgers, the opportunity the create a unique identity as a young female sportswriter in training. And my success in that field began the healing process. But it wasn’t till many years later after running several internationally acclaimed companies, building wonderful teams of people, attracting friends all over the world, developing a huge network of professional associates and building a reputation as a person who cared about people and always stood in her integrity–that I realized that I had a universe of people who not only liked, but loved me. I finally vanquished my hidden insecurity.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they know that integrity is my highest value–that I do what I say and always try to do what is right with kindness and respect–and that I expect that in others. But I know that they see I also deal directly without procrastination with the tough stuff. You have to have the courage to meet the challenges head on, but do it whenever possible where everyone has a win.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Playing more. I have been married to my businesses for all of my adult life. I have only worked for others for 4 years, so being an entrepreneur has been my life’s focus. First with my PR firm–one of the two largest sports/special events/cable TV firms in America with a world class client list for 20 years and the last 17 years doing podcast/radio tours for authors, leaders and experts –and now adding my passion business The Historic Traveler. I follow God’s breadcrumbs to create unique enterprises, but the building, marketing and running of these have left not enough time for fun. As much travel as I’ve done, there could have been much more, and more time for friends. Now I am changing my life to accommodate more joy!
