We’re looking forward to introducing you to Domina Mara. Check out our conversation below.
Domina, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I wake up between 7 – 9AM depending on when I go to bed the evening before. A couple of hours is spent waking My brain up in bed learning about new topics, brainstorming current interests, and prepping for the day. On Fridays, I normally plan out the entire week coming up so that I have My schedule ready to go the following Monday. From 10 – 11AM, I do yoga and exchange weights and leg day 5-6 times per week. I skip breakfast, but eat around 12:30-1:30PM watching YouTube Creators. From 2PM – 5PM sometimes 7PM, I edit videos, session in person, or Live Stream on Twitch. Then, depending on the day of the week, I usually produce an event for the local Alternative Community every month weekly. I try to eat dinner around 7PM and no later than 9PM. Celebratory days are an exception or travel, of course. I’m in bed by 10:30PM or before Midnight if I’m out for the evening.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name Mara based on the Buddhist Legend and My titles vary from Domina, Goddess, and Miss. I’m a professional and Lifestyle Dominatrix since 2013, and I’m now shifting My practice to more Healing Arts while still keeping My Dominant side tandem. In this crazy world, I think W/we all need more community and safe spaces that support people’s lives rather than tear them down. My gifts of Touch, Truth, and Compassion allow for the darkest parts of people to emerge and channel out back to the Universe using specific Rituals. In addition to that, I teach BDSM 101, How to Use Impact Toys, How to become a Dominatrix, Shibari Rope Series for Beginners + Intermediate Levels, as well as host events like Crafting Munches, Speed Friending / Dating, and Sex Toy Bingo. I am also a fire spinner and flow artist, so when I can combine these with My other skills, it because a very multi-layered performance for parties.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was and always will be an Artist. While I was growing up, I always had an appreciation for drawing, painting, singing, dancing, calligraphy, architecture, sculpture, and good design in general. When My family had to move to South America when I was 9-12 years old. Not only did I learn new languages, but I also was immersed in new cultures. To combat My loneliness since friends were impermanent, I started drawing Myself in the styles of My favorite animated tv shows. I wrote poems and lyrics to songs, did My own nails, and also figured out how to gain pleasure from masturbation during this time. I feel like it was only when I had to return to the United States for 7th grade did it start getting serious and that’s when I had to start becoming an adult. My college years were a little more freeing because I was fortunate to work for both My Bachelors and Master of Art and figure out what Type of Artist I wanted to be. Society gives us the constructs, but I dance in and out of them as much as I can possible.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I believe relationships teach you the most in life, whether that’s familial, friendship, chosen family, romantic, work, you name it. Every connection you make with a person is a defining moment on how you choose to portray your Character. I’ve failed multiple times in My partnerships with each of these categories in some way, some more than others, and those consequences were literally heart-breaking. So much so, that I had to have grieving processes that made Me think twice about sharing certain things or to stop giving when I wasn’t receiving the same amount of energy in return. Without getting into specifics, I can say that all of that suffering led Me to work on Myself and over the years transform it into My most powerful weapon today: Self-Awareness and the ability to honor My Boundaries neutrally. By choosing ME first, I’ve been able to avoid getting wrapped into situations that will not serve Me, nor progress My relationships with those people further, and I am completely satisfied with that.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“It’s about the amount money you make and how many people you play with that make you successful. How many interviews do you receive and how many awards do you win for your work?” All of that is utter nonsense is complete Hollywood drama superficial people need in order to validate their existence at all. Sure, it’s nice to receive the titles and recognition for your hard work, but there is a fine line between those who actually deserve it versus people who know those in Power who will give it to them for political reasons. I’m not saying every event is like this nor am I saying there is nothing communal about these types of gatherings. I’m saying it’s just for show. I’m not into celebrities or award ceremonies because at the end of the day, You KNOW if You’re doing good work. If you’re being featured in multiple articles, highlighted in film festivals, or recognized on the street for teaching free courses on YouTube – THAT’S the cherry on top. Maybe it’s just a projection, but it’s a truthful one. I am more about the people who notice the quiet ones shining brightly without needing all that fluff.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would honestly keep everything the same, but amp up My travels, connections with people, and really go for it. I’m already living life to as full as I can manage while still maintaining a healthy mental, emotional, and physical outlook. However, there are places I want to see, people I want to have experiences with, and things on My bucket list that I could accelerate. This question makes Me think of if there is anything right now I should be doing MORE of rather than “stopping” anything.
