We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kayla G.. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Probably the way I build feeling into everything I do. People see the work, but not the structure behind it. It’s not just photos, it’s a world I’ve been quietly curating for years.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kayla G. also known as CanonKD, I’m a South Central LA born photographer who tells stories through color, sound, and feeling. My work is about energy more than image. I love turning everyday moments into something that feels cinematic but still human. My brand has always been about connection, community, and showing what LA feels like from the inside out.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that moved from pressure instead of presence has served its purpose. I’m choosing softness now. To build, not chase.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Honestly, music and quiet moments helped me the most. I’d find peace in rhythm or just being alone with my thoughts, it made me feel safe again. I still find peace in my solitude that way.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what really matters to me is meaning. Whether it’s in my art, my relationships, or the energy I put out. I care about things that feel real. They’d say I value connection, peace, and purpose more than anything. I love seeing people feel seen, and creating moments that remind them they matter.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
I know I’m out of my depth when my peace feels off. When my creativity starts feeling like pressure instead of expression, that’s my reminder to breathe, slow down, and come back to myself.
