Justin Charles of Inglewood on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Justin Charles and have shared our conversation below.

Justin , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is a blend of discipline, creativity and fatherhood.
I wake up early, take care of my health with a morning workout, and then spend the rest of the day building—editing footage, writing scripts, producing music, and shaping the worlds inside Mid-City Dreamers and Dark Inheritance.

In the afternoon, I pick up my kids from school—those moments keep me grounded.
At night, when the city gets quiet, I’m usually back in the studio.

Every day is about forward motion.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Justin Charles, and I’m a filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, editor, and independent studio owner in Los Angeles.

I run Anaomi Entertainment, the home of the Mid-City Dreamers film trilogy and its expanding animated universe.

My work is special because it blends music, storytelling, and emotional truth.
I build everything from the ground up—writing, directing, producing, editing, and even creating the songs that drive my films.

I’m currently expanding the world of Mid-City Dreamers, developing Dark Inheritance, and building a cross-platform universe that connects live action, animation, and music in a way that feels fresh and deeply human.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds break when people stop seeing each other.
They’re restored when we start listening again.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’re not too dark, too short, or too different.
Nothing about you is ‘less than.’
Your mind is your superpower, even when nobody sees it yet.

Keep creating.
Every world you escape into now… you’ll build for real one day.
And the same imagination people teased you for —
that’s the gift that’s going to change your life.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is real—it’s just the focused version.
I’m naturally private, but my work puts pieces of me out there: my resilience, my humor, my loyalty, and my creativity.

In my films, my music, and even my animated work, people see who I actually am.
I just save my deepest layers for the people I love.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do.

I’ve taken a long road to get here, but everything in my life—good or bad—prepared me for filmmaking, music, and world-building.

No one told me to do this.

It chose me.
