Hi Joshua, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work I truly enjoy my time with friends & my little pup. Getting to unwind and relax with friends while doing movie nights, dinners, shows & kicking back at the beach/nature is truly one of the best things. My little pup will usually come along but we do our own little fun things as well like dog parks and driving around town when I have errands to run.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Joshua Yeagley, I am an Interior Designer and owner of Yeagley’s Designs – Interiors & Fine Furnishings Company. I have over 20 years experience in this industry with 15 of those years running my own company.
I was born and raised in the small town of Marion located in the heart of Indiana, and I have has always had a passion for design and being creative. When I get a design in my head with a great vision I can create it as well as make it come alive. I have always been amazed by architecture and interior design. After spending a few years learning the small trades of the design world and building a small portfolio I felt I needed to advance my knowledge and love for the design world by attending college and earning a degree.
I moved to Long beach, California in the summer of 2004 to attend Brook’s College where I would earn my Associates of Fine Arts in Interior Design. I graduated in the top three of his class and now I am professionally achieving many of my goals in the design world.
After 6 professional years in the industry I decided to in bark on my biggest dream and branch out into owning my own design company/business. In the summer of 2010 I launched Yeagley’s Designs. This would be a company where I could do anything in the design world, not just Interior Design and it would be all my creations. If I could imagine it I would create it. I also wanted to have a company with no limits to what I felt I could do as well as helping others with my amazing talent related to the arts.
I strive in listening to my client’s needs and wants, while understanding them and building a trusting relationship with them all around. I feel building a friendship with your clients is what makes them clients for live and helps you to create the perfect lifestyle for them through designing their home, furniture along with anything else you can imagine.
That’s why our company motto is, “Designs With You in Mind and Within Reach”. We strive to make any design project big or small come to life while keeping it budget friendly and fitting to our client’s lifestyle. We sell small accessory items from candles ( Waxt is our in house handmade Home Scent Collection ) to full customized furnishings to fit any lifestyle. Remodels are definitely one of specialities and love creating a new look for an old or new space. We are also well skilled in custom handmade items like furniture, soft goods, stained glass. wood working and more!
We have recently relocated our main headquarters to Los Angeles, CA but we do offer services all over the United States as well as an online store that features our hand selection items that are in stock ready to ship or be delivered to you home. We have grown a lot over the years and we have strived to be more accessible to clients all over the United States.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say a lot of who I am has come from the influences of my grandma and grandpa Bare. They still to this day tell me how proud they are of me and always knew I would be an amazing artist and creatively strong man.
Some things I remember from when I was younger was that we used to always watch old school vhs movies & shows that would eventually help me to tap into my creativity, humor and love for the arts. On top of that the laughter and jokes are some of the best memories. Along with the stories they tell to this day of the funny crazy stuff we would do when I would visit as a kid, still makes me laugh and smile reminiscing of my time with them growing up. Grandma was definitely the more humorous one for sure but if we weren’t laughing we weren’t living life to the fullest.
My grandpa taught me a lot of patients from when we would go fishing down at the creek. He taught me that you have to relax and sometimes just wait and see what will bite. He also had a lot of patients for me being high energy, but he always could handle it with a smile and this I have adapted in my adulthood as well with being so understanding when dealing with many personalities in the industry.
They both have a large influence on who I am to this day as well as my work ethic and I am happy to know I’m making them proud.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
One thing I can say is while on this journey it has not always been easy. One thing life has definitely taught me is that when you hit the bottom there is just another mountain God has on the other end for you to start climbing. I truly believe God only gives you what you can handle.
From all this I have learned a lot from these low times and it has helped me to grow and have a strong structure on the next mountain. I have learned to have more positive outlook on things as I keep moving forward in life even when they are rough. I have also learned what to watch out for as well as how to handle obstacles that may repeat themselves. Life loves throwing those at you and trusting in God that he is leading me down the right road.
With all this will come life goals completions and success.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I would have my closest friends feel that respect, caring, passion and my big heart is what really matters to me.
I have been through a lot in my time yet I still stay humble and passionate in my everyday life. I strive to bring a smile to others faces as well as having a big heart that cares so much for others to see them in a good mood and successful in life.
The respect I have for others is one of my top things as well as I value time more than anything. Time is the one thing we can never get back and to waste others time or not be dependable is not being respectful. I truly do live by “do unto others as you would have others unto you”.
In the world we are in now the respect, caring, big heart and true passion I have is hard to find. So I feel they would say that those are definitely the things that makes me special and stand out the most.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
One thing I do the most is always strive to do my best work and focus on the details to make sure it’s completed to the finest.
Now I have had many clients in the past who truly were so cold they didn’t care about the final product and just were like “well it’s done”. Now many of theses times are when I have completed handmade from scratch designs. It’s not that they weren’t satisfied they just truly didn’t have an appreciation for the originality and work that went into it.
I will say as an artist we value the praise for our creativity and it does hurt a bit when these moments happen, especially if it is a piece we spend many hours on that was an original design.
Just a simple “Wow, that looks great and thank you!” goes a longways.
