Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Bodor.
Hi Steven, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Today, I am a professional photographer specializing in architectural and real estate photography across the greater Los Angeles area, extending to Joshua Tree.
My passion for photography began organically through my skateboarding background, where documenting moments was second nature. In many ways, my peers and I were early creators—producing content that not only gained attention but also inspired others within our community.
While this passion remained consistent over the years, I didn’t fully embrace the business side of photography until my late 20s. It was during that time that my life took a pivotal turn, leading me to pursue photography as a full-time profession and build the business I have today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I come from a family with strong values, though my upbringing had its challenges. Growing up in East Los Angeles (Montebello), I was exposed to a mix of influences that shaped me quickly and instilled a sense of independence early on.
My parents immigrated to the U.S.—my father from Hungary and my mother from the Philippines—bringing with them diverse cultures and perspectives. Looking back, I recognize they did their best to provide a loving and functional home, despite the realities and challenges that come with adulthood and parenting.
Losing both of my parents at a young age, while difficult, ultimately shaped who I am today. It gave me clarity, resilience, and a strong sense of self. It also deepened my relationships with loved ones and friends, and taught me to rely on myself—with or without support. I’m grateful for the life and foundation they gave me, and I only wish they could see who I’ve become.
As you know, we’re big fans of Image Control. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The majority of my clients are in the real estate sector, where I photograph high-profile homes for a diverse and notable clientele. Through these connections, I’ve also had the opportunity to build relationships within the film industry, leading to work in set photography for independent productions—opportunities made possible through strong professional relationships.
I stay focused on delivering quality work rather than recognition, but that dedication has led to features in magazines, contributions to film projects, and the chance to photograph iconic properties, including estates such as the Walt Disney Estate. Photography has truly been transformative for me—it has changed the course of my life.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Roger Sayegh and I connected through a mutual network, and from our very first meeting, I took on the role of campaign director during his State Senate run in District 18. That experience provided me with valuable insight into community engagement and leadership.
Barry Berlinsky has been both a mentor and business partner, playing a key role in expanding my access to high-end markets in Hollywood and Beverly Hills. As the owner of a successful luxury rental business specializing in cars and homes, Barry introduced me to influential clients and environments that significantly contributed to the growth of my business.
I’ve also been fortunate to work closely with clients such as Karla, Christina, Sarah, and Jessica, who supported my work early on and helped me establish a strong presence in the Joshua Tree market. My frequent visits there have given me a deep appreciation for the area’s unique culture, community, and lifestyle, all of which continue to influence and inspire my work.
