Inspiring Conversations with Maria Primushko of MVP Law Group, APC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Primushko

Maria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since middle school, I’ve had a strong sense that I was meant to be an attorney. My journey started in St. Petersburg, Russia, where I earned my degree in Jurisprudence and worked at the district attorney’s office. Later, I made the life-changing decision to move to the U.S. After arriving, I pursued my Juris Doctor at the University of West Los Angeles. Over the years, I gained a strong foundation in business law through my work at CT Corporation and later had the chance to serve at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office and volunteer as public counsel. All these experiences shaped me before I finally opened my own practice.

In my work, I focus on creating customized Estate Plans, Trusts, and Wills for families, particularly those in Calabasas and the Valley. I aim to help people organize their affairs in a way that keeps them in control—without the interference of government or outside entities.

Unlike the typical attorney, I’m unapologetically passionate about protecting those who are most at risk—whether it’s the elderly, children, or adults with special needs. It’s painful to see people suffer because of neglect or financial exploitation, and that’s why I’m so dedicated to what I do. My desire to protect others and stand up for what’s right has always driven me, and that passion ultimately inspired me to start MVP Law Group.

People often avoid thinking about Estate Planning until it’s too late. I see it as a mix of misunderstanding and fear, which is why I’m a firm believer in education. I’ve spoken on this topic many times and am an active member of organizations such as the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce. For me, the message is simple: learn, learn, and learn some more. I love sharing real stories from my work to show the impact of having—or not having—a proper Estate Plan.

When I’m not practicing law, I’m happily spending time with my family. I also love horseback riding, which helps me unwind. When someone asks what I do for a living, I usually say that I provide families with peace of mind.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with anything in life, it didn’t come easy, and it still doesn’t. My journey has been filled with challenges, both personal and professional. Balancing law school while adapting to a new country—was demanding. Then, there was the task of studying for the California Bar Exam while raising a newborn, which tested my resilience in ways I couldn’t have imagined. But these experiences, while difficult, have been incredibly rewarding. They’ve made me more adaptable, determined, and empathetic as an attorney, allowing me to better guide my clients through their own legal obstacles. The road may be bumpy, but it’s those bumps that help shape who we become.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in business is how essential it is to truly understand your clients’ needs. In estate planning, particularly when creating living trusts, there’s so much more than just preparing legal documents—it’s about really listening to people, understanding their concerns, and helping them shape a plan that protects their loved ones and aligns with their long-term goals. Trust is everything (pun intended). By focusing on educating clients about their options, like the benefits of living trusts, and having honest, clear conversations, I ensure they feel confident and supported throughout the process. This kind of genuine connection not only builds strong relationships but also leads to long-term success in any business.
