Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Winegarner.
Ken , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Started in Japan at the age of 7 in the art of Judo.
Then… At age 17 I found the bery aggressive martial art of San Soo. I train in that to this day
In my 20’s to early 30’s I trained out of the famous Westminster Boxing Gym where I boxed and also learned, with out side help, kick boxing
In the mid-90’s – 2002 I trained in bjj with Franco De Carmargo and the Machado Brothers, but mostly with Franco achieving my purple belt

In the late 90’s I started training in Krav Maga where I began to devote all of my training to Krav Maga
I opened my school, Anaheim Krav Maga, about 16 years ago where I use Krav Maga as the base art and blend into it boxing, kick boxing and bjj.
My school continues to grow and I love giving back to the community with free women’s self defense seminars and bulky defense, etc, stuff like that
One of my most honored martial art achievements is being inducted into the martial arts hall of fame

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part the journey has been challenging yet fun
What bothers me the most is to develop friendships and great relationships with my students yet I know somewhere along the line most students will move on
This is the hardest part about the business for me. You have a student for several years and then they’re gone, for whatever reason. It’s liken to a death in the family.
To me, that’s the hardest part about this business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I love about this, myself growing up in a violent family is the fact I can help others survive violence
All we do here is self defense. Awareness and action. I want to help as many people as I can understand violence and how to defend against it or how to avoid and evade it
Any big plans?
I just show up every day with one goal in mind. Make my students better at sieving violence if they ever are confronted with it
