Inspiring Conversations with Jae Figueroa of The Snack Trio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jae Figueroa.

Jae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I used to work as a Human Resources Manager for many years. When my company announced they were closing down, I didn’t know where I would stand. I was 7 months pregnant with my youngest when I found out the company was shutting down. I was saddened by the news and also scared, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to return to my job once my maternity leave was over.

I began thinking about how I would find a job that could work with my schedule while caring for a newborn. It wasn’t going to be easy, but I needed to figure out a way to make an income.

Then my 14-year-old son mentioned that he also wanted to find a way to make some money. He suggested we start a snack bar business. I thought about his idea for a while and wondered how we could make it happen. That’s when we came up with the idea for a mobile snack bar for all types of events.

I started by networking and promoting my business. My first event was at a Mother’s Day celebration for a moms’ group located in Redlands. I wanted to make it special while also gaining exposure, so I decided to offer my services for free. Eventually, I connected with other groups where I was able to sell and promote my business. At the same time, I helped these groups by offering discounted pricing or giving away credit vouchers toward my services.

Little by little, The Snack Trio began to grow and become more well known. We had the honor of serving at the Mentone Film Festival, where we made great connections that eventually became friendships along the way. Those experiences helped get us to where we are today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. One of my biggest challenges has been growing the business with a limited marketing budget while also learning how to navigate social media and promote our services effectively. Balancing motherhood, family responsibilities, and entrepreneurship has not always been easy, but every challenge has helped us grow stronger and more determined to succeed.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Redlands is how united and supportive the community is. As small business owners, we understand the hard work, risks, and dedication that go into building a dream, which creates a lot of mutual respect for one another. It’s inspiring to be part of a community that truly supports local businesses and wants to see each other succeed.
What I like least about Redlands is how much more industrial it has become. I miss some of the small town vibes.
