Inspiring Conversations with Golan Haiem of AutoTalent + Destination Wagyu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Golan Haiem.

Hi Golan , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated UCLA in 2012 with a plan for years to go to law school. As I got closer to graduating, I realized I was doing that for the wrong reasons and the thought of being a lawyer did not only not get me excited, but sounded miserable. I ended up finding a job in the aftermarket automotive parts company selling high performance parts to high end cars as that was one of my passions since before I was able to drive. Cars and customizing them to be unique was a big part of my teen and early 20s years.

I ended up loving doing it and decided that I wanted to prioritize E-commerce as it did not require me to be air a physical location and I can have a business that works 24 hours a day while online shopping was blowing up. In October of 2017, I started AutoTalent.com and spent the next few years building that and finding different ways to scale year over year.

After 5 years of building AutoTalent, the business was more automated and I had more free time to start a new venture. I wanted to stay In the same category of e-commerce but focus more on being in control of my own brand (AutoTalent, we were selling other brands parts. Over 100 of them). They were in control of the pricing we could sell for, inventory, etc and we had to compete with 100s of other dealers doing the same thing. So I wanted to focus on being in control of my own brand, inventory, pricing, high margins and e-commerce.

It took me about a year to find that ah ha moment which was selling wagyu beef. Wagyu was something I would occasionally cook with my friends and once I found there were no major dominators in the space, I went with it. Over the next year, I would strategize, develop relationships and start building out my website for my new company, Destination Wagyu.

Destination Wagyu specializes in selling the most premium and authentic wagyu from Japan, Australia and United States with a heavy emphasis on Japanese. We carry on the most respected farms that provide full documentation and cattle traceability so you know exactly what you are buying. These are the same steaks you would have at the most expensive / upscale restaurants in the world with the ability to cook them at home.

Destination Wagyu was launched in November 2024 and we have been experiencing month over month growth since we launched. I experienced a new found excitement when I started this brand and still have the biggest smile on my face every time I see an order come in, especially when people come back and purchase again. Food has always been a huge part of my life and I love people experiencing this rare beef and providing their feedback to me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Challenges experienced vary from inventory issues during covid years, employees quitting when you need them most, price increases on tens of thousands of items at once, tariff price increases and many more.

As an entrepreneur I have learned that panicking is the worst thing you can do and you need to have the ability to pivot and strategize at any given moment. Things can happen at anytime and you have the ability to make better decisions with experience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about AutoTalent + Destination Wagyu?
AutoTalent started in 2017 with a simple focus make it easier for enthusiasts to buy high end aftermarket parts without the usual confusion, wrong orders, and lack of support that’s common in this space. We sell premium performance and OEM+ upgrades, mostly for European and exotic cars, and we take fitment seriously. A lot of issues in the aftermarket happen before the order is even placed, so we spend time helping customers choose the right setup, understand what’s required, and set expectations on lead times and shipping. What sets AutoTalent apart is that we don’t run it like a generic parts site. We’re hands on, responsive, and direct, and we treat every order like it has a real person on the other side who just wants it done right. Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the trust we’ve earned repeat customers, word of mouth growth, and a reputation for being the shop that answers, helps, and follows through.

Destination Wagyu was built to bring a luxury level Wagyu experience to customers across the U.S. without the uncertainty that comes with ordering high end beef online. We focus on top tier Wagyu, including Japanese A5, and we care about the full experience what you’re buying, how it arrives, and how confident you feel cooking it. We’ve put a lot of work into sourcing standards, transparency, and presentation, because “Wagyu” gets used as a vague label online and customers deserve clarity. We also treat service like part of the product. We guide customers on which cuts to choose, how to prepare them, and we back it up with responsive support. What sets Destination Wagyu apart is the combination of quality, transparency, and a premium brand experience from checkout to unboxing. We’re most proud of building something that feels intentional and consistent product quality, packaging, and service so customers don’t just receive a box of meat, they feel taken care of and want to come back.

How do you define success?
Simple, one word and that is growth. Growth requires so many factors like customer satisfaction, validation of services and word of mouth referrals. There will of course be moments of stagnation or slight decline due to unforeseen circumstances but like discussed earlier, it is how you adapt and strategize to move forward.
