Inspiring Conversations with Charles Seltzer of Crosscourt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Seltzer.

Hi Charles, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Crosscourt was born out of frustration with the adult pickup basketball experience. After college, it became nearly impossible to find consistent, high-quality runs — courts were either overcrowded or empty, games were unorganized, and there was no sense of structure or community. Despite basketball being the most popular sport in America for over 15 years, there was no modern infrastructure for adults who still wanted to play.

The idea was simple: what SoulCycle did for spin, what Orangetheory did for circuit training — basketball deserved the same treatment. A clean, elevated experience with real culture behind it.

It started with renting indoor courts across Los Angeles and launching a simple Shopify landing page. For $20, players could join structured one-hour runs with referees, music, jerseys, and tightly timed games — to 11 by 2s and 3s or five minutes, whichever came first. These sessions blended competitive energy with a curated vibe, offering a frictionless pickup format that respected players’ time and love for the game.

Over two years, those runs grew into a dedicated community of athletes, creatives, and professionals who kept coming back — not just for the basketball, but for the experience. That early traction led to support from initial investors and paved the way for Crosscourt’s first standalone club in Downtown LA — built on the same one-hour format and community-first ethos.

Today, Crosscourt is redefining what it means to play basketball as an adult — building clubs that combine premium facilities, high-level play, and real connection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride! We started by being open only at night for our pickup games. But we quickly realized our members wanted more — not just great pickup games, but leagues, a place to train, shoot, recover, and connect. So we kept building. Over time, Crosscourt evolved from structured basketball runs into a more holistic fitness experience — one built around the culture of basketball, but layered with strength training, recovery tools, and real community. Every addition has been shaped by what our members wanted next.

We’ve been impressed with Crosscourt, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Crosscourt is the first premium basketball-based fitness and lifestyle club — built for adults who still love to hoop and want a space that matches the energy, culture, and quality they expect from modern fitness. We specialize in curated, one-hour pickup runs with referees, music, and structured formats that remove the chaos from traditional pickup while preserving the soul of the game. But we’re more than just basketball.

Our clubs combine high-level play with strength training, recovery, and community. Members come to Crosscourt not just to compete, but to connect — through leagues, open gym, cold plunges, shooting machines, and a shared culture that values performance and presence. What sets us apart is how we’ve taken something deeply familiar — the run — and elevated it into something intentional, consistent, and aspirational.

Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the authenticity we’ve held onto while scaling. Crosscourt feels current and timeless at the same time — where Kobe kids and creatives train side by side, and everyone shows up to get better. Our mission is simple: to unite and ignite the world though the power of basketball. And we’re just getting started.

What are your plans for the future?
We’re building the future of adult non-NBA basketball. Our vision is to open Crosscourt clubs in NBA cities and beyond across the world. Each club will elevate what we’ve created in LA: structured pickup runs, premium fitness and recovery amenities, and a powerful community experience that’s rooted in the culture of the game.

We’re also investing in technology to make the Crosscourt experience seamless — from game scheduling to performance tracking to member connection. Long-term, we see Crosscourt as more than a club — it’s a platform that blends basketball, wellness, and lifestyle under one roof.

What we’re most excited is bringing this vision and special space to new markets while keeping the energy, intimacy, and quality that made people fall in love with Crosscourt in the first place.
