Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Clouse.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi! My name is Ashley, and I am the owner of the Instagram account @TherFashionJunkie. I started my business back in 2010 as a hobby making custom phone cases. How I got the idea was from a kiosk in the mall near me. I saw another girl selling these gorgeous phone cases with all these big, bedazzled pieces on them. I loved them so much that I knew I had to have one, but they were not in my budget at the time as they were around $200-$300. So, I decided I’ll try making one. I searched everywhere from the exact pieces to make myself a case and finally made it myself. Whenever I would use that case, I would receive so many compliments as a lot of people have never seen anything like that before. That’s when I started getting request to make family and friends their own custom designs cases. So, for about 4 years I strictly only did phone cases, and my Instagram was just growing until one day I got a request for shoes. I had never done shoes before and thought wow that would be a new market to get into so so did my first pair of converse. And the request just flooded in. My Etsy shop became a top seller for shoes. So, I decided to venture out to other items and that’s where tumblers came in. I would bling full tumbler in custom colors for my clients. This is when I started getting noticed by reality stars such as girls from bad girls’ club and YouTubers such as Jasmine brown, Jayda Doll, and Mariale. They would receive their tumblers and shout me out and my account and business just grew. This is when I was contacted by the makeup brand TooFaced to make custom jackets for there new mascara at the time “Better then Sex“ this was huge for me as it was my first big brand to work with. This opportunity only opened more doors for me. While all this was happening, I was being shouted out by many other small business in the same field. My business was just growing. I know work with a few other brands that love to make video content with me, and I help promote their business while it corresponding with mines as well. I never thought a hobby would turn into a full business, especially a custom cup business. All my tumblers I make are custom and usually sell out in minutes every time I open my site.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. At the beginning, it was hard to but once I found my audience my creativity just grew. This is when things started to become easy. I found a routine that worked for me while still trying to be a mother to my young daughters and a wife to my husband, all while doing everything myself with no employees.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a custom cup designer. All my creativity comes from ‘80s and ‘90s era and from my favorite characters.
I think what sets my business apart from others is how creative my designs are and how I market them. My designs are never alike.
I specialize in custom bling (bedazzled) designing on tumblers.
I can customized any design from photos, to characters and bling it on any tumbler.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always had a very loud personality. I wasn’t the shy kid, that’s for sure. I always wanted to be a fashion designer I even went to Cal State Fullerton to study fashion. Which is so ironic that my business has become somewhat of a fashion but for cups.
My style was always bright colors. The brighter the better. I always felt I could express myself through my style. That’s what I put I to my cup designs.
