Inspiring Conversations with Anthony Canapi of Best Man Matchmaking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Canapi.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dating in the city is already a hassle enough, but dating in the city as a Gay Man has become a time-consuming, complex, and one of the most difficult dating processes a gay man has to go through. As gay men, the process of looking for long-term commitment has become harder because apps nowadays have turned into these “meet up and now” motives instead of its original motive, which was dating and relationships. 

Born and raised in one of the best cities in the world, L.A., I understand how hard dating is as a Gay Man in the city because I had to face it head-on myself; unfortunately, it’s not easy, and in fact, studies have provided that in high-critical cases, evidence shows vulnerability to mental health problems among gay men interacting with other gay men— problems that were potentially facilitated by dating app usage. 

After eight years of matching Heterosexual Men and Women whilst balancing my own dating life, to then having a close friend of mine getting declined by a matchmaking firm due to his sexuality, I realized how hard it is for someone like myself to find love, but not only that, I questioned and asked myself, “how many other Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Men are in my position throughout California?” 

I launched Best Man Matchmaking March of 2022, exclusively for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Men who seek a dating process that’s offline, authentic, and back to the basics. GBTQ+ Men should not have to struggle to find love. Best Man Matchmaking offers a brave space for men to explore their sexuality, dating history, and insecurities that are blocking them from their full dating potential whilst introducing them to quality bachelor-seeking relationship longevity. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not- ahaha! Not at all. Like any other business, there are common obstacles that you’re going to have to face- from research to marketing to even creating the business plan. 

Although it has not been a smooth road whatsoever, my passion for what I wanted to do as a service was what drove me to put every hour into my overall business. 

I still have a lot to learn when it comes to differentiating my occupation as a Matchmaker and Dating Coach and running a service as a businessman, but with every year comes different goals and objectives to achieve.

Best Man Matchmaking is a concierge, white-gloved matchmaking service for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Men who are tired of the “swiping and grinding” of the dating apps and are seeking a dating process that’s authentic and back to the basics. 

Best Man Matchmaking works with Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ Men in California, with partner service areas in Colorado and New York, who are seeking a long-term, committed relationship and are looking to be matched with upper echelon, quality single men who are ready to find love. Utilizing a 2:1, in-person matchmaking model, our goal is to bring authentic, organic connections for GBTQ+ Men. 

Headquartered in West Hollywood, California, Best Man Matchmaking is California’s only certified, LGBTQ+-owned matchmaking company, incorporated under the state laws of California, matching Gay Men by Gay Men. 

Any big plans?
I want Best Man Matchmaking to be more than just your typical matchmaking service. Overall, it’s a love business for a gay men to enter a safe space to explore their sexuality and acclaim their authenticity. 

In the future, I would love to offer more than just matchmaking services- I would love to offer personalized coaching (life, dating, relationship, etc.), masterclasses, therapy (individual, couples, or family), counseling, and extend on our events (from mixers to conscious connecting to support groups)!
