Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Reyes.
Hi Alexa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I finally launched my business last year. I say “finally” because this was something I had my heart set on for a long time, but I couldn’t quite muster up the courage to actually do it.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always been both analytical and creative, and I struggled to find work that truly brought me joy. After earning my bachelor’s degree in sociology, I explored several industries, including both residential and corporate real estate, interior design, and construction. Throughout all of those experiences, though, I always felt like I was meant to do something different.
Looking back now, I think I needed those career shifts to get to where I am today. I was able to experience so much life during that time and meet so many people on their own journeys. Working in design especially exposed me to people who shared similar interests and made me feel less “crazy” for wanting to pursue something creative.
Planning events was always something that naturally brought me joy. I genuinely loved putting together family gatherings and I realized that whenever I was creating timelines, building mood boards, or coordinating vendors, I felt completely fulfilled. It never felt like work to me. But it was after planning my own wedding that everything really clicked for me. The entire process from designing the experience to thoughtfully curating every detail felt so natural and exciting, and I remember thinking, “This is what I’m supposed to be doing.”
I spent years asking myself what kind of work would feel meaningful rather than draining, and I realized the things that brought me the most joy were always rooted in creativity, connection, and celebration. That’s when I knew event planning was something worth pursuing.
Now, one year into owning my event planning business, I’ve learned so much, not only about the industry but about myself and what I’m capable of.
Of course, part of me wishes I had pursued this earlier in life, but I’m incredibly proud of myself for finally taking the leap and going for it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s been a huge learning curve, from understanding social media from a business perspective to realizing how important networking and relationships are in this industry.
Entrepreneurship brings so much personal growth with it. It has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect and has made me a better communicator, leader, and problem solver. I once read something that said, “If you want to truly learn about yourself, become a business owner,” and honestly, that couldn’t be more true. It constantly pushes you outside of your comfort zone.
Another challenge has been balancing entrepreneurship while still working a full-time 9–5 job. Building a business outside of work hours takes a lot of discipline and energy, but it’s also reaffirmed how passionate I am about this work.
At the same time, I’ve learned to embrace being in the beginning stages of something. I take pride in the fact that I’m still learning and evolving, and that’s made the experience really exciting.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that nobody really has it all figured out. Everyone starts somewhere and everyone is learning as they go.
Of course, imposter syndrome can creep in sometimes, but what I’ve found is that momentum creates opportunity. The more you put yourself out there and continue showing up, the more doors begin to open.
As you know, we’re big fans of Revelry by Rey. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My company is called Revelry by Rey, and I plan and coordinate a wide range of events. I primarily cater to busy women who already have so much on their plate but want support bringing their celebrations to life in a thoughtful and elevated way.
At this stage in my career, I’m open to planning all kinds of events- from baby showers and quinceañeras to birthdays and community events. If the client feels like the right fit, I’m confident we’ll create something beautiful together.
What probably sets me apart most is how deeply I care. Maybe it’s the empath in me, or maybe it’s my Latino background (we naturally love hosting people and making them feel at home). I care deeply about creating experiences that feel meaningful and memorable, not just for my clients, but for every guest attending.
One thing I really pride myself in is creating events that feel personal and intentional. I want every celebration to reflect the client’s personality, values, and story. When guests walk into an event, I want it to immediately feel connected to the host or the milestone being celebrated. It should feel elevated while still feeling authentic to them.
When someone hires me, it’s truly a collaboration. I see it as an opportunity to bring a client’s vision to life through my own creative lens while still making sure it feels deeply personal to them. That’s one of the reasons birthdays are some of my favorite events to plan, they’re such a fun opportunity for people to express themselves.
Whether someone simply needs consulting and guidance or full-service planning and design from start to finish, my goal is to make the process feel seamless and enjoyable. I want my clients to feel supported throughout the process and fully present during their event, rather than worrying about all the details behind the scenes.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I think one thing I’ve come to appreciate more as I’ve gotten older is how meaningful gatherings really are. Life moves so quickly, and people are craving connection more than ever. Whether it’s a birthday, wellness event, or intimate dinner, there’s something really special about creating spaces where people feel welcomed, celebrated, and cared for.
A lot of my inspiration comes from community and from the way I was raised. Growing up in a Latino household, hosting people and making them feel at home was always second nature. I think that naturally shaped the way I approach events now.
One of the most meaningful things I’ve done recently was hosting Rooted Together, a yoga and sound bath fundraiser that supported immigrant and separated families. That event reminded me that gatherings can be beautiful, but they can also create impact and bring people together in a deeper way.
At the end of the day, I really just want people to feel something when they attend an event I’ve helped create. I want them to walk away feeling connected, cared for, and inspired to celebrate life a little more intentionally.
