Inspiring Conversations with Deborah Warshauer of Woodland Hills Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Warshauer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a licensed acupuncturist since 1990. So many passions in a career come from a personal experience and mine is no exception. I had always had a deep interest in acupuncture for pregnancy, childbirth and fertility as I was on a fertility journey during a time when modern fertility treatments were on the forefront. While in acupuncture college, my resources for researching acupuncture and pregnancy were quite limited as acupuncture was still in its infancy in the western world. After graduation, I was finally able to conceive and went on to have two sons. I was eager to be the best mom possible and was fortunate to stay home with my boys during their early years. When I got back on the train, fertility acupuncture had exploded as a reflection of the need for assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF. I dove in deep and many years later, I am just as passionate today as ever!

My practice, Woodland Hills Wellness Center, is a multi-disciplinary health care office and incorporates a Doctor of Chiropractic and a Registered Dietician. I offer herbal medicines, nutraceuticals, cupping, moxa, gua sha, infrared and other light therapies. I see couples in all phases of fertility and preconception care including trying to conceive naturally, IUI, egg retrieval prep, embryo transfer prep and pre/post embryo transfer treatment (either on site or in my office). I also offer facial rejuvenation acupuncture (acu facelift) and Microneedling to treat many skin conditions of the face in addition to pain management and internal medicine issues.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always challenges in every endeavor that has value. I work long hours and try to see everyone who needs help. Sometimes this carves into my self-care or time with my husband but my drive to assist patients on their journeys is so strong. I do struggle with balance of family time and work time.

We’ve been impressed with Woodland Hills Wellness Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Offering fertility, prenatal, & postpartum services is the main thrust of my practice. Our beautiful, modern center makes patients feel welcomed and relaxed. Any health challenge can be agitating and stressful and my staff and I go out of our way to create an environment where people can feel embraced while momentarily checking out from the real world.

In addition to being a licensed acupuncturist, I am also a trained and experienced birth doula and birth educator. Prenatal patients sometimes see me more other than their OB and I am able to answer pressing questions or help them to make decisions about their birthing preferences. I am a mom, had both a vaginal birth and a cesarean section, successfully breastfed both of my boys and went through a long fertility journey. This sets me apart as I have personal experience of what my patients are going through and thus am able to guide them in a deeper way.

What were you like growing up?
I was always a curious child, asking a million questions, needing to know answers and never giving up until I was satisfied. I was on the go, playing in the neighborhood until all hours of the evening and that has never stopped! I can get more done in a day than most people I know can do in a week!

My interest in natural health started at a young age. I remember learning about the difference between whole wheat bread vs white bread when I was in the 3rd grade. I insisted that my mom only buy whole wheat bread for my sandwiches at that time. From there, I found a fascination with holistic, natural health as this seemed more logical to me than taking medications and having surgery. I have probably tried just about everything health related!
