Hidden Gems: Meet Stephanie Potkin of Prophase Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Potkin.

Hi Stephanie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for over 10 years, with most of that time focused on aesthetic injections. I got into this field after losing a significant amount of weight at a young age and noticing early signs of facial aging. That experience sparked my curiosity about how the face changes over time and what we can do to restore it in a natural way.

After being on the receiving end of poor injections and working in environments that prioritized profit over patient care, I knew it was time to create something different. It was important to me to build an environment that truly aligned with my values and aesthetic approach. That’s when my sister and I decided to open Prophase Aesthetics.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, opening my own business came with its challenges. In a city like Los Angeles, where there’s a med spa on nearly every corner, not everyone was supportive of me taking this leap.

I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. Early on, I invested in treatments and technologies that didn’t always live up to the hype, which was frustrating but ultimately valuable. Because of that, I’ve become very intentional about what I offer. I never recommend or sell anything I don’t truly believe in, and I’ve learned to take “the newest and best” claims with a grain of salt.

Those experiences ultimately made me a better provider and business owner. They’ve helped me stay grounded, remain honest with my patients, and focus on delivering treatments I genuinely trust and stand behind.

We’ve been impressed with Prophase Aesthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prophase Aesthetics is built on the belief that science and beauty go hand in hand. Our motto, “where science meets beauty,” reflects that philosophy. We focus on skin health and collagen stimulation, with the goal of creating natural, long-lasting results.

The name “Prophase” is inspired by the first stage of cellular mitosis which is the process by which cells regenerate. Our goal is to support your body’s natural regenerative processes.

We are best known for natural-looking results. My goal is to help you look refreshed, not augmented. It’s always better to look a little older than a little weirder, which is why I’m not afraid to say no when a request doesn’t align with that philosophy.

What sets us apart is our genuine commitment to achieving the best possible results for our patients. Even if that means recommending a treatment we don’t offer or referring them elsewhere, we will always be honest about what we believe will provide the best outcome.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m always researching new treatments and the latest in aesthetics. It’s exciting to see new technologies and ideas emerge, but every trend claims to be the best, so I don’t take those claims at face value. I have a process in place to fully understand what I’m offering. It starts with reviewing the research and current studies, followed by trying treatments on myself first, then on close family and friends. Only if it truly delivers do I introduce it to my patients.

I stay open to innovation while still being selective and intentional about what I offer. There’s always a certain level of risk with anything new, but I do everything I can to minimize that risk for my patients.
