Hidden Gems: Meet Sergio Pelayo of Es My Cleaning Business

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergio Pelayo.

Hi Sergio, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well, my story has always been about starting from the very bottom and learning along the way. Back in the day, I started in the cleaning industry literally cleaning houses with my wife. That small beginning turned into building a cleaning company, and later I even launched a project called Bloodshot Coffee. At that time, because of lack of experience, I had to put the coffee business on pause, and I also sold my cleaning company. Honestly, those decisions were tough, but they gave me the experience I needed to move forward.

Fast forward to today, things are very different. Through Es My Cleaning Business, we are now well positioned after more than a decade in the cleaning industry. What we do is manage, guide, and advise businesses across the U.S., and at this stage, if I combine the companies we oversee, we’re managing more than 100 million dollars in revenue within an industry that generates over 100 billion annually. That means working with hundreds of companies and thousands of people nationwide.

What makes me really proud is that we didn’t stop at just consulting or administration. Over the last two years, we’ve been developing our own software called FlowNect, a SaaS platform not only dedicated to the cleaning industry but to the entire services and security industries. It integrates management systems with AI and IoT, and we’re launching it this year. For me, it’s proof that even starting from nothing, you can end up leading innovation in your field.

On top of that, my operations are now international. I currently run multiple businesses both in Mexico and the United States, and I’ve built partnerships with several additional companies that allow me to expand and diversify even further.

And of course, we’re also moving into our first round of capital raising for investors, which is something new for me but exciting because it shows how far we’ve come. From cleaning houses, to pausing projects that didn’t work out, to now leading an international operation that touches thousands of lives and stepping into technology—it’s been a long road, but one that I’m really proud of.

And as a final personal note—beyond business, beyond software, beyond investments—I even launched a song, because creativity and expression are also part of who I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest obstacles for me has always been the need to sacrifice stability in order to move forward. At one point, I had to risk the comfort and stability I had built in Los Angeles with my active business there, and at the same time take the leap of expanding internationally by launching operations in Mexico. The truth is, I didn’t have the capital, I didn’t have all the resources, but I had the instinct. I trusted that instinct and moved quickly without overthinking, because I knew the more you think about it, the more fear grows and the harder it becomes to take that step.

Another challenge I faced as things grew was personal growth. When you run a small business, you’re side by side with your employees, doing the work together. But when you get to the point of managing millions of dollars—many of which don’t even belong to you—and carrying the responsibility of hundreds of businesses, everything changes. You have to learn to interact differently with people, to lead at another level.

I’d say one of the hardest challenges for me personally has been learning to handle the pressure and the anxiety that comes with that responsibility. It’s tough, and at times it feels overwhelming, but it’s not impossible to overcome. For me, that has been one of the biggest obstacles: learning to carry that weight without letting it break me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Through Es My Cleaning Business, we provide a full range of services designed to help companies in the services sector—from cleaning and construction to landscaping and related fields—operate at the highest level. What makes us different is that we don’t just offer one solution—we cover every area a business needs in order to grow and remain competitive.

We specialize in marketing, accounting, payroll assistance, invoicing support, compliance, insurance policies, licensing, and registrations. We also work closely with clients on contract bids, both government and private, and provide website creation and branding services. On top of that, one of our strongest services is our Virtual Receptionist program, which supports business owners who often can’t stop their day-to-day work to answer calls or manage scheduling.

A big part of our market is focused on the Latino community in the U.S., many of whom may not be fully fluent in English or simply feel more comfortable managing their businesses in Spanish. That’s where we come in—we provide receptionist and client support in Spanish for them, while also making sure their business communications are handled in English, the language of the market. This bridge we create is something that truly sets us apart.

On a personal level, my greatest expertise lies in bookkeeping and forensic accounting, including fraud examination, areas in which I have specialized training. That combination of hands-on consulting and technical expertise gives our clients peace of mind that their businesses are financially solid and fully prepared to scale.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that Es My Cleaning Business has become known as a trusted partner that takes care of the entire picture: from operations, to compliance, to strategy, to technology. And now, with the launch of FlowNect, we’re moving into the future by giving the industry tools powered by AI and IoT to take operations to the next level.

What I want readers to know is simple: if you’re in the cleaning, construction, landscaping, or service industries, we understand your challenges, and we have the knowledge, experience, and systems to help you grow, in the language you need.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
For me, risk is not about being reckless—it’s about moving forward even when you don’t have all the answers. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was leaving the stability of my business in Los Angeles to expand internationally in Mexico without the capital or resources in place. I trusted my instinct and moved quickly, because the longer you wait, the harder it becomes to take that step.

Another huge risk has been developing FlowNect, our SaaS platform. I’m not a technology expert, but my passion was stronger than my lack of experience. For over two years, I reinvested my own money and profits into building this software. Today, we have engineers in programming, electronics, AI, and cloud services on payroll. That journey taught me that sometimes the biggest risk is simply believing you can build something outside of your comfort zone—and working relentlessly until it becomes real.
